Samsung A23 5g help please

My phone won't give me any sounds. All sounds are on and vibrations off but still no sounds when I get a message etc.  what did I do wrong? 
your help is appreciated

Did you check volume setting?

I pressed the volume key on the Side of the phone and the icon told me the sounds were on mute. It showed me where I touched the wrong button without me even knowing it in the settings area that I wasn't aware of.
