hi cherry!  We just bought 4 Roku boxes and kept two cable boxes. You have to have at least ONE cable box connected to a tv., also WiFi connection.

You can get several free channels, but we usually watch what our local channels offer. At real time.   For that you need to go into your cable app (ours is spectrum or time warner) and you can watch any channel they offer that you paid for before. We bought one box for 29.98 (the least expensive) at Walmart to try it out first. You can always return it. It works just fine. We are happy and have had no problems. Saves $$.

@Wricardos. did I understand correctly that you can watch all the Spectrum channels (that you currently pay for)  thru the Roku box?

If that is true then we could possibly one of the cable boxes we rent from Spectrum, that would be nice.
