Re: Question for those who have experience with ""Find my iPad""

I haven't activated the "erase my iPad" yet. Should I do this also? There are just a few photos on it and some apps that I've purchased. Nothing really personal except for the possibility of getting into my iTunes.

Hopefully you backed it up to itunes! But yes, call Apple and tell them. I know when I have lost a cell phone, the carrier immediately deactivates it. That is also possible with the kindle. But Amazon automatically saves all your info. It's just a bit of a hassle with IPad to Re download your apps etc....but by all means do that yesterday. If you have paid for anything online with your IPad also call your bank and credit card companies. They can put you on high alert, although they should call for unusual activity anyway .

Re: Question for those who have experience with ""Find my iPad""

Woo Hoo! Just wanted to share. . .My iPad mini has been located! It seems that someone "borrowed" it--just knew I wouldn't mind since I have five of them. It's true, I would've gladly loaned it, but I would've preferred to have been told in advance. Anyway, I just wanted to report how "Find My iPad" worked if anyone here is wondering:

Since it's not a 3G/4G model, it had to be on WiFi in order for me to find it. The person has had it at home where there is no WiFi. When he walked onto WiFi, an alarm sounded with a message saying that the iPad was lost and to call my cell number. (I typed in the message when I activated the "Find My iPad" app). I got a message on my iPhone and an email indicating that the iPad had been located. The email indicated that the location would be saved for the next 24 hours. He immediately called me while I was in the process of going online to check the location.

Since he didn't know my 4-digit pass code, he hasn't even used it for the past few weeks. He said that it's just been sitting there at his house, and he's been "forgetting" to give it back to me or tell me that he had it. I feel so blessed to have a happy ending. Thanks to all of you who shared advice and concern. Smiley Happy

Glad it worked out! Thanks for posting what happened and how that works. So did he go to a WiFi location that your mini had been connected to before? So it automatically connected? Or did he manually connect to it under settings?

5 huh? All yours or just in the family?

He walked into a previously connected WiFi area and it automatically connected. He didn't know the pass code, so he wasn't able to go into settings to manually connect.

I purchased 5 minis for my classroom. This one disappeared before school started. When school is in session, I guard them like a hawk, but it looks like I got too relaxed during summer session. I was storing them at home all summer and in the evenings, but I had taken them to a few workshops so that I could download new apps on them as I tried them out. Just glad to have it back so that the students can use it. Smiley Happy

Re: Question for those who have experience with ""Find my iPad""

Congrats, wildcat fan. Thanks for coming back to provide an update. Not often we get updates from people who ask questions. I appreciated you telling the details of what happens. Thankfully, so far I haven't had to use this feature. Although I am all set up if the need should arise. I found it interesting to hear from you what exactly happens. And from both ends, with your experience and the other side of the one who had your iPad. Good to know!
