I want to view my messages individually and not in groups. How do I change the settings for that on my MacBook Air? I know that in Mail I go under Preferences and then Viewing. After that I'm not sure which parts to uncheck. I know this is probably a stupid question, but I don't want to mess up something by unchecking the wrong thing. Thanks for your help.

p.s. I'm asking about my e-mail messages. I tried to go in and edit the original post, but it won't let me edit that post.

Thanks, but "organize by conversation" isn't a choice for me. My choices are:

1) Highlight messages when not grouped. Then in smaller letters it says, Use the View menu to group messages by conversation.

or 2) Include related messages.

Thanks dooBdoo. That isn't the version of Mail that I have, unfortunately. The choices that they list aren't the choices that I have. I find that a lot when I search for answers. My computer is brand new, so the ones in their help section must be referring to the older version. I just unchecked the first box that I mentioned. If that doesn't work I'll uncheck the second box, too. I do have Yosemite, but those still aren't my choices.

I'm confused by your comment, though -- the Mail app is native to the Mac, and the current version for for Yosemite is Version 8.1 (if you click on the drop-down menu under the word "Mail" on the toolbar, and choose "About Mail" you'll see the version).

Well, that's really strange. I have Version 8.1, but those aren't my choices. Now I feel like I'm reading something wrong but I don't see how. I listed my choices in one of my replies.

Actually, they say to click "View" and on my computer it says "Viewing." That's just one example of the difference.

NickNack, I think I found the problem. You're looking under Mail Preferences, and then choosing the "Viewing" tab for settings. That's where you're seeing "highlight messages when not grouped."

We're talking about the "View" tab on the main toolbar for the Mail app (as shown in the link I provided).
