If you can't afford to buy it outright, you can't afford it.

So then we can assume you paid cash up front for every car and home you've ever purchased?

Who said anything about a house or car? Although I did pay cash for the car I currently own.

Your statement was silly. It could be anything - car, house, expensive TV, computer, appliances. Whatever. My point is credit (and easy pay) is available for times when someone cannot purchase an any item outright.

How about saving your money and buying it outright. No one expects people to pay cash for a house or car. To compare that type of purchase to a TV is what's silly. If a person can afford to pay a monthly payment in full, they can afford to save the same amount and pay cash for an item that isn't a necessity.

If they wanted you to fax verification of who you are, someone "with a similar name" must have reported fraud on their card.

Even with that verification, the Q is being cautious by disallowing a big first purchase. Good for them.

I have had no trouble with QVC. So far so good. One issue with a payment that crossed when the bill came out. They settled it, no problem. I don't like the credit card they use so I use my own.

With all the recent problems with hacking I was refused a charge two weeks ago. I bought a new phone from Sprint and Chase denied it thinking I was being scammed. I would rather be safe than sorry. Lots of edgy merchants.

Are you a new QVC customer? If you are new and this is your first order using a debit card I am not surprised that they are limiting their potential exposure to loss by limiting the $$ amount. I would be cautious too if a new customer was placing a order for a expensive item like a TV using a debit card and wanting EZ pay. If a new customer made a large $$ purchase wanting to use a debit card and get EZ pay alarm bells would go off for me. I am sorry if you were offended but it is the way of the world today. retailers lose millions each year in fraud so I am sure they have put more stringent policies in place based on their prior experiences. Sorry you got caught up in it.

Wow - way to hit rude and judgmental out of the ballpark. Whether or not someone uses easy pay - or why - is absolutely none of your business. Besides, if the Q is not charging interest and you can on your money over X number of months, why not? I can afford to buy items without easy pay and sometimes use it to get an item home to make sure it works - why tie more of my money up when the Q is offering easy pay? If someone uses the option, I would hardly think it is my place to lord it over them. Geez. It's a wonder anyone posts anything on this site these days.

Might this card have been used at Target, and possibly flagged as one that may have been compromised in the data breach debacle?

You didn't try to order a 70" tv, a king size bed, an ipad, and a MacBook Pro, by chance, did you?

You can probably get a slightly used, big-screen tv, for a pretty low price on Tue, the day after the day after the Super Bowl, when everyone returns the tvs they bought for just that one day.

Call my cynical, but, there is something off about this. I have never heard of a customer having to fax verification of who you are? What would that even involve?

However some companies will not allow the use of a Debit card for any type of extended pay/easy pay, etc. The reason being, with a debit card, you are paying with Cash! How would any company know that next month or the next, etc., the cash will be in the account? Obviously, they wouldn't.

Just because a company offers easy pay, doesn't mean that they will extend it to every customer, for every purchase. If a potential transaction raises a red flag, they certainly have the right to question it or deny it. If it was our company, I'm sure we'd do the same.

Companies and banks, offer credit cards. That doesn't mean they will extend the credit to everyone who applies.

It's probably a sure bet that the OP just started this for fun, then abandoned it leaving other posters to "discuss" the topic. Yesterday, I was guessing this was one of a couple of kids goofing off at home because of a snow day.{#emotions_dlg.sneaky}
