I don't want to import photos from the IPad to my laptop and I don't know how to do it. I tried once already. I gave up. It's only 99 cents a month to get 50 GB. Is this a good way to get space. It seems an easy thing to do and then I won't need to worry about it. I cannot afford a new IPad with a more space at this tim. Thanks a lot everyone for any suggestions.
Check your usage and I bet most is used up by "other". It's a category I have yet to figure out and you can't get rid of it unless you reset your iPad. Backup your iPad to your computer or cloud, do a facotry reset, then restore from your backup. I did this with my Macbook and gain 100 GB of space.
@sundropsI use an Apple App CCleaner for iPad or iPhone to clean the other area of my iPad4 and iPod Touch.
You should backup you tablet first.
How did you do that? I have CCleaner on my Macbook and iMac and it has never gotten rid of the "other" files.
I used this software to clean the cache on my ipad4,and ipad Touch.
I noticed it gave me back some storage space.
I do not know anything about cleaning a Macbook or and iMac.

how old is your ipad? if you have the current OS it takes a lot of space to run so that may be an issue.
read this link and see if you can transfer the photos to your laptop, I have done it, not too hard. transfer pix
then I would reset my iPad as new ipad and start fresh
also read about setting up your ipad to transfer new photos via photostream to your computer, that way you can delete them from your iPad. This method doesn't involve the cloud
you can do this, just read it and follow step by step

Where do you find the Other files category. Mines says Used and Available, and then it lists the apps and how much space they are using. Dont see an Other category.

Hi everyone, I just now pulled the trigger and bought the storage for 99 cents a month. Now I can keep my photos on the iPad, keep my Kindle books on it, etc. and not worry about it anymore. I just have to make sure to keep money in the App Store account! My brother, who I go to for advice on tech things, told me to go ahead and do it. He knows I have trouble understanding these kinds of things. Thanks to all who replied.

They must have gotten rid of it with the latest update. You use to be able to see a bar graft under settings then storage.

Another way to recover space on your iPad or iPhone is to be sure to sync/backup the device on a regular basis. A big part of the "Other" category is the Diagnostics and Usage data and it can build up quickly. (To see it, go into "Settings," then "Privacy," then "Diagnostics & Usage.") The only way to remove it is by syncing/backing up the device or by completely resetting/erasing the device and restoring from your most recent backup. (Regarding CCleaner for any Apple devices, I would discourage its use. It's not needed and has been known to remove important files causing major problems -- please, if you decide to use it on Apple mobile devices or computers, be sure you have a recent, reliable backup in case you encounter problems.) By the way, an added bonus of regularly syncing/backing up the iPad or iPhone is that it can remove problems causing random glitches that seem to have no known cause.
I hope that helps!

@Shawnie wrote:What version ipad and what is the size? Do you have an apple computer? You could move your photos to your Mac using Airdrop, one at a time. Or back up to your laptop and then afterwards just delete what you need to from your ipad. Do you have videos on your ipad? They are space hogs. You can move them to your computer too. Same if you have a lot of music files, you could pare back there too.
You don't need airdrop to move them. Just turn on wifi and they automatically sync to your mac Photos app.

Again, all that did was give you more cloud storage and has zero to do with you being able to store kindle books or photos on your device. It does not physically increase storage space on your ipad. To read kindle books you have to download them to your device. Although you can see all the kindle books you own by looking in the cloud inside the app. Photos, you can view in the cloud though. So you really don't need to keep them on your device.
