PLEASE HELP! Transferring Itunes Library from old PC to new.....

CALLING ALL YOU EXPERIENCED Q-GEEKS?!....

I've tried Internet search on this topic, Youtube, Wiki, and on Itunes help...so much info, can't seem to get what I need and simplify it all, or successfully do what they seem to advise...(been trying for a few hours now to no avail!)

Can anyone help simplify & advise me? {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

I have an external HD ...thought I had Itunes backed up onto it, (has not been updated since 2008, but much of my Itunes library was on there then)... but have plugged HD into new laptop and cannot seem to find a file that is my library (even though it shows some icons, don't seem to be my actual library.

I may just need to upload my library from old computer to Ext. HD again. (thought I had it on a flashdrive too...not finding it or successfully transferring.)

What I have: New i7 Toshiba laptop A660 series with Windows 7

Old Dell Inspiron with Windows XP (and my Itunes library on it.)

My Ipod with almost complete library on it ( a few new songs were in my library but not on the Ipod yet)

NOTE: I haven't turned on my old computer for months because it seemed to be dying. A "professional geek" scared me in saying my HD was somewhat corrupted and could crash at any time, so I was a little afraid of starting computer & losing all info. I'm sure the geek could transfer all info from one to the other but can't afford to do about $150.00 if I don't have to. But in order to transfer Itunes to ext. HD, will have to risk using the old Dell and hope it doesn't crash...and what if it does? Backup plan??

(I also have my docs saved to a flashdrive, and I thought Itunes too, but can't seem to get/find it from that either...)

First time since having Itunes I've had to transfer to new pc.; I foolishly thought it was as easy as downloading Itunes software again and refreshing my library through my account with them. Not.

PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP SIMPLIFY AND ADVISE (esp. best way to do this, considering old PC condition...it started and was working, albeit painfully slow last time I tried, but it was tenuous.)

TKU!{#emotions_dlg.blush}
