I ordered a black friday laptop from Dell yesterday and it states that it has windows 11 on it.

Thank you and I hope your holidays are wonderful.
Yes, I do remember discussing the exercise chair. I still use mine everyday.

Yes it is exactly true. I wished I had taken a few photos of the screens that showed. I would not lie about something important to anyone. I will try and get a HP laptop soon as I never had a problem ever with them.
I am sure if I contacted HP they would not have been happy knowing one was sold like that.
I got my other HP laptops from Staples and never had a problem. The main thing in as I explained it all to Walmart and they will not be trying to sell to someone else.
It wanted you to put a disc in the laptop (which this did not have one) and do all the BIOS etc. That is why I think it was returned messed up. I plan on going on HP's site and get one and also describe what I saw on the one I returned.

My grandson and wife needed some exercise equipment so I gave it to them. I have to admit I miss it. I am 76 years old nd still keep myself in shape as much as I could. 😊

Set up in minutes. No issues.
If what you said is true, it would have to be one that someone bought, messed with, removed the OS and returned. No way would HP sell any kind of computer without the OS installed as specified.
Are you sure it wasn't telling you how to create a recovery disk or USB?
Sorry, none of that makes sense. HP is the biggest-selling computer company in the world. They don't, in my experience, sell rubbish. I don'[t believe it came from HP that way.
I think that's exactly what might have happened.

@MKR14 - Buying direct from HP is your best bet. And right now there are a lot of Black Friday deals going on. I've looked at buying a new laptop for myself, but I can't really justify it.
Staples at least makes it clear, if something is "unboxed" (or refurbished). And in the past I've bought our computers from Sam's Club with no problems. It's just that this time we wanted specific features that I couldn't get from any other retailer - plus I got them on sale from HP at a great price.
Good luck. It's a shame that some people will do things like that, returning a product after they've messed with it.

My last computer was from Staples and I may order one there. Never had a problem with them.
I do believe someone erased the system and I never would have gotten the OS back on it. Walmart had no problem taking it back. I am curious as I think it was just an error by previous person that returned it and accidentally got put back in inventory.
I worked for 21 years setting up new computers in the offices I worked in. Maybe less tech needed back then. Life goes on.

I agree as I have owned a few HP laptops and no problem.

Something was off. Without an operating system, the computer would have stopped loading at the BIOS screen. Without an OS there's nothing else for it to do. You would typically get a "Drive not found" error message if there was an issue with the storage drive, or an "Operating System not found" if the drive was found but no OS was loaded. Some sort of an OS was installed for it to display a UPC or QR code. The BIOS wouldn't know to send you to Microsoft, as people don't just install Windows. Linux, and lots of other competing OS's are out there these days. Without seeing the messages, it's hard to know what happened, but some sort of an OS was installed in order for it to get past the BIOS.

@MKR14 That must have been a shock, I've purchased all my laptops over the years from Best Buy. Never had an issue with them.
