Since you need to learn something new, why not get a Macbook?

Hmmm- do you have one? I've never even looked into them- I've only heard that they are expensive- and I don't have a lot of disposable income - You did mention you had a Dell- and that's what I've always had -from desktop to laptops-- it's hard to jump feet first into something entirely foreign.

Yes, I do and they are expensive. If you have good credit, you can get a payment plan with Apple. I also have a small Dell computer. It's 11 inches and I use it primarily for Quicken. I also found it updates my GPS much easier than doing it through my Apple computers.

My switch to Apple computers was not without a learning curve. There are things that went very smoothly and others didn't. I didn't find it as "intuitive" as people on this board claim it is. I like more control over my data than Apple wants you to have. I really do like my Apple computers and have no plans to go back to Windows full time.

I didn't find learning Windows 8 or 8.1 to be difficult either. If you have the computer boot to the tiles, you can start typing what you want to open or access. I can type Quicken, click on the shortcut and the program launches. If I have it boot to the desktop, I have shortcuts on the desktop. Either way, I can easily find the programs I use.

One of the things I like about Windows 8.1 is the use of the Windows Key. It allows you to switch from the desktop to the tiles by pressing that key. If you are at the tiles, there is a down arrow you can click on and it takes you to all of the apps or programs you have installed. In the limited amount of time I've used Windows 8/8.1 I don't miss the start button at all.

After "playing" with a touch- I think I could get used to 8.1- I actually kept that last Dell that over-heated for a couple weeks to see if it would settle down. I don't just throw up my hands and give up- I investigated it quite a bit- I concluded that many times it takes multiple steps to do what windows 7 did in one- but other than that-I did find what I wanted for the most part but I didn't like things popping up on all sides or that my pages disappeared if I even so much as breathed wrong. If this old standby holds up- I'm going to see what Microsoft does next. I can't afford (even on payments and excellent credit- to get an apple but thanks for the suggestion. I did look into it and I'm afraid we hi-jacked the op's thread. oops! Sorry OP.
