Actually, once you get accustomed to the new Pages, it really is OK.  It's just somewhat more complicate in some functions and actually simpler in others.  You can get one of the ".......For Dummies" books for El Capitan and it'll help you adjust.

Thanks @Cats3000.   I just looked up the Dummies book on Amazon and will definitely order it if I have any problems.

@dooBdoo  or anyone who can help.  I have a really stupid question that I'm almost embarassed to ask.  I have Thunderbird e-mail on my computer.  I mostly use Mail, but use Thunderbird for a different e-mail account that I have.  Will the Thunderbird icon along the bottom of my screen (is it called the dock?) go away when I download El Capitan?  If I'm not explaining myself well, it's what I click on to get to my Thunderbird e-mail.  I really need that icon/e-mail to stay.

I'm assuming it won't have any effect on it but wanted to make sure.

        @NickNack, You're icon will be fine.   Even if an update modified the appearance of any icons, they still would link back to the software.   Also, these icons are always available in Finder--->Applications, and you have the option at any time to open them there and then add them to your dock.  Now and then I change my mind and remove icons from the dock, add others in, and then re-do the whole thing, so it's easy and very customizable.Smiley

Mine stopped 2X but I was able to re-start.

Much smoother than Yosemite.

@Cookie2025  What do you mean that it stopped 2x?  Did it stop while you were installing it, and you had to restart?

@Nicknack -

It took a long time to install - there is a small 'time line' at the bottom of the screen that did not move for an extreme amount of time.

There are changes - for instance my laptop screen was of the Earth with a dark background.  Certain features are not present.

However it is well worth downloading - so do not get discouraged.

It is well worth downloading.  I do not know of anyone who has had an issue with El Capitan BUT do not mention Yosemite in public unless you want to hear groans and moans.

It shouldn't effect the icon but, it could effect the function of the program. I'd do a Google search for any compatibility problems before proceeding.

I didn't realize Thunderbird e-mail was still around. I used it years ago and loved it.  Then I bought a new computer, it wasn't compatible and I never checked to see if it had be updated.

Thaks @glb613.  I downloaded El Capitan last night.  Thunderbird is still working.  I know it's almost obsolete.  I do use Mail for my main e-mail.

@dooBdoo and anyone else who might know.  After downloading El Capitan I can't do my three finger swipe to get to the main screen where the calendar, calculator and weather are.  They seem to be gone.  I used that every day.  Is there any way to get that back??  I haven't played around with it yet, so don't know what else is different.

Edited to add:  I Googled it and figured out how to bring the calendar, etc., back up.  I guess I'll be Googling a lot now!

I was reading an article and tapped with three fingers on a word to get the definition.  It didn't work, so I Googled how to do it in El Capitan.  It said to tap on the word with three fingers, which is what I did.  I then tried it in a different article in case there was just a glitch in that one.  Does anyone know how to do this in El Capitan??
