Your SIL should consider an IPad. Amazon sells them for less than the Apple store. Black Friday Amazon might have a sale.

Not everyone likes to type on a small screen.

An iPad has a great high PPI display. You can easily adjust the size of the text for a reader age 2 or 82.

A 10.2 display is not small.

No, it is not small but, some people like me do not like to type on a hand held device. And a 10 .2 sounds uncomfortable to hold or even type in a stand. It is a matter of preference.

Neither.  Mac OS--best around.  Would hate to have to trade.

The 'best' one would depend on what you will be using it for. Chrome OS is web browser based and is somewhat simple and smaller in it's design. It's good for people who just need to surf, shop, do email and social networking. Very simple and user friendly.

Are you looking at Chromebooks? @patricia38

I got a Hp chrome at Best Buy.  Love it.
