This has happened to me in the past, and i had turned the volume down all the way.  i know you probably checked this, but i couldn't figure out what happened for a long time,

..I fixed it!!  Well, with a little help from friends, thanks!

 

I did a reset....option, command P and R and restarted.  It worked.  I have no idea what the problem was...one day I was getting notifications of new mail, the next day..none!  

 

I am out of my element when I have computer issues.

PRAM reset = finger gymnastics  Smiley LOL

Very True!  I have piano fingers, that helps.
