I just got a notification that as of June 2023 my chromebook will not get automatic updates but I can still use my chromebook. I'm not tech savvy, but why would I continue to use my chromebook if I'm not getting updates, isn't that asking for trouble? I'll have to either get by with my iPad and KIndle Fire or get a new computer (not getting a chromebook I'm done with it).

You'll be able to use it, but little by little weird things will start to happen. I still have a Windows 7 desktop that never knows what the date is.
My Windows 8.1 laptop will be orphaned by Microsoft in January.
Sigh. Planned obsolescence.

Any piece of technology eventually becomes outdated and that can lead to it becoming vulnerable to cyber attacks. Hardware gets old, too, so that makes it impossible to get new updates which are constantly changing to meet the demands of keeping a device safe and secure. Chromebooks outdate because of all of that. Older CB have older hardware and that makes them not secure.

New security software is made for new hardware. It just works better that way. If your device is 5yo or older, it's time for an upgrade.

You can still use it, you won't get security updates. I had my Chromeboom for 5 years before it reachrd its EOL date. Replaced it with a laptop with Windows 11 and it has been problematic in away that Chromebook never was.

I LOVE my $129 Chromebook. I have an iPad and a Macbook but I always reach for the Chromebook.
BTW - this is my second Chromebook too.

All that means is, you won't get any additioal updates. You can continue to use it but, it may become a security risk.

OP here, I don't think it's worth the risk of using it and not get any security updates. I may purchase a new computer as it gets closer to June.

Hi, I have a CB and it's approx 3 yrs old. You can always download an antivirus app. Good Luck to all that owns one.
