New computer + Old speakers

I like the ten-year-old Harman Kardon speakers I have, so did not order new ones for the HP desktop (Windows 8.1) I ordered a few days ago. Now that it's too late to change the order, of course I am second guessing myself. Am I going to regret this decision? Will these old speakers be compatible? Additionally, am I correct that a driver is not necessary, that the sound card in the PC will do the job of connecting this hardware?
