Faster processor/more RAM
more storage (64g)
OS upgrades
The product description page on Amazon has full details.
As a Kf/Fire fan since the first 7”HD, HDX, (both sizes), 6”, 8” and 10”,
it was difficult for me to give them ALL AWAY....
once I tried the 2018 Ipad ($249/rose gold) last year.
I’ll still get grandkids Fires though!

If you trade in your old 10 and with that and the 20% off you would pay $60 less and if you add new huge micro SD card (also currently on special) you have a smoking new tablet at a very low fee. You can reuse the case from your generation 7 for this generation 9.
I'm waiting until I see some real-world reviews of the new tablet. I got burned replacing my old 2012 era 7" Fire with their new 7" tablet only to find it was worse in every way. It was cheaper than the old one was, but that was the only thing improved. My old 2012 one had a better screen, was faster, worked better, and was just rock solid. The new one is flimsy and worse in every way. It won't even hold the wallpaper for more than a week without needing to be reset.
Amazon's tech support says this is all to be expected as it's an entry-level model. Say what? They made a tablet that was worse than one from seven years ago? If the newer 7" model was my first Amazon tablet, it would be my "exit-level" Amazon tablet. I was very disappointed and I'm not making the same mistake twice. My 7" HD Fire is great. My old 10" is great. The new 7" is a piece of garbage.
If the new 10" tablet is truly improved, I may upgrade my old 10" tablet for it, but my trust level is not very high with Amazon and their tablets right now. I'll wait until I see what customers say about the new tablet and then go from there. Heck, I'll gladly trade in the new 7" one for the new ten-inch one if the new 10" one is any good.

The first 7” Kindle Fires were HD and expensive, then came the fantastic HDX models...even more expensive.
At the time, Amazon was not known as a kind of tech. company, so was not
most folks first choice to purchase a tablet.
Imho, Jeff was ahead of his time with his first line of tablets...they were fantastic quality.....the 8.9” HDX was superb in every way.
The market was not willing to pay for the quality, so he switched to entry level basic tablets.
Dollar to dollar, the 8” is the Goldilocks imho...especially when on Sale.

I like the10" tablet. It has a faster wireless card and a one year warranty.

Yup, for sure the 10” is great.
I was only speaking about price to value .
For example, to get an 8” for a sale price of $49, then add a cheap $5 Warranty....
But after owning nearly every model of K/Fires, I “took a bite of an Apple”
and *sinned* by turning my affection towards an Ipad!
In a year, I have had NOT ONE ISSUE. No restarts, no charging issues,
no confusing and complicated categories, etc.
I gave away most of my Fires, except 1-6” and 2-7”HDX. All of which still have the OS with the Carousel and can’t be upgraded. (which I prefer).
The 6” is perfect as an ereader, although I have a Paperwhite.
And the HDXs are just.......stunningly clear.
I don’t actually use them much anymore and I’m reluctant to give away, mainly because they can’t run the latest apps/games .....
which most folks are looking for.
All are in perfect condition, with cases.
Sigh......fond memories of Jeff’s first venture into the tablet market.

I have the 8 incher Fire Tablet, around a year old, and I recommend this one. It's alittle on the weighty side; other than that, it's not bad at all. Great visual, great sound, fast. And I can use the Comcast app which turns tablet into a tv. The thing is, instead of sticking to a book, I surf the web. With the Paperwhite, the internet is not present.

I was very surprised when I got my all new tablet for 2019. 7 inch After ordering two for Xmas for my nieces. I decided to order one for myself to take out with me. I did not order the so called deal from QVC because of the posts I read last year about the cases and about the problems with the warranty. I ordered tablets from amazon and I am using this tablet more the my Samsung . I like the Alexa feature which has been improved and also its very comfortable in the hand being a smaller tablet. I also have prime which I am enjoying very much.

At this point, Kindles are the pure e-readers while the Fires are the tablets. Originally the tablets were called Kindle Fire tablets, but in later years they've dropped the Kindle part and just call them Fire tablets to try and avoid confusion. A lot of us who had them from the beginning still call them Kindle Fire tablets, but technically they're no longer using the word Kindle with their Fire tablets. The difference is the Kindles are pure e-readers with minimal other capabilities, while the Fire tablets are fully featured tablets. If you want a pure e-reader you go for a Kindle. If you want a fully-featured tablet, you go for the Fire. If you're a long-time customer like me, you confuse people by calling the tablets the Kindle Fire tablets, which is what they were originally known as.
