@Jordan2 wrote:@AngelPuppy1, I have a Samsung Chromebook Pro that is a 2 in 1. First I don't recommend this model as I have had it a little over a year and have had it repaired twice ( I paid $500 for it when I could have gotten a Chromebook for a lot less). The point I want to make is I have never used it as a tablet ( it folds over), I think using it like that is too clunky and awkward. I would get a tablet that fits your budget be it a Kindle or iPad ( I have 2 Kindles and an iPad that I actually use more than the chromebook).
I think I have decided against a chromebook. It seems the more I research, the more confused I get. Thank you!

@Toot1920 wrote:I don’t know anything about these but HSN has 2 HP Stream laptops for $399.99 for 2. It might not hurt going to their website and watching the taped presentation. Or maybe catching a new presentation today. Just a thought, at least, you have until January 31st to return if you don’t like them.
Thank you for suggesting this. I will try and get over there and look at them.

Thank you. I think DH is leaning more toward a laptop. He thought a tablet would be more easy to handle but on the other hand, thought a laptop would be better to handle everything and more functional.

@AngelPuppy1 wrote:I posted several months ago about possibly buying a tablet or something for DH. Well, our very old Mac desk top is still chugging along but I don't think it is long for this world. It has been a great machine, but it's gotten to the point where updates are next to impossible and our printer no longer jives with it. We have decided that after the first of the year we want to purchase a laptop, or 2 in 1 or something --- no more desk tops. I do like Apple and think they are very good and the security seems excellent. However, they are very expensive (at least to me) and I don't think they are the easiest to operate.
I am kind of leaning more toward a notebook or laptop as opposed to a tablet. DH and I don't have complicated use needs. We both basically surf the net, do e-mails, and I occasionally type a few documents. DH listends to a lot of music and I occasionally watch a show or movie. I don't know what else we would need? We are not computer saavy at all.
I have several questons. What device do you think would be best for us? If we do not go with Apple, what other brands do you feel are reputable, and have good security? And, what do you feel about reburbished machines? Any good??? Also, this may seem like a very dumb question but can you print using any of these devices? Do you get a wireless printer???
I would really like your help and input and suggestions. We don't want to wait until our current computer blows up to get another one!
Thanks so very much-- I appreicate your patience in answering these questions which probably seem very elementary!!
I know of several people who only use an iPad for all of their computer needs. I couldn't for a variety of reasons. I like to play games and most of them aren't available on an iPad. I also don't like the mobile versions of websites. If I had to choose only one device, I'd buy a small notebook computer.

We have CB's and love them. No virus protection to get because it is built in and no windows updates. It the CB updates itself in seconds. The CB is getting better and better now with the arrival of the google store. I would never go back to a windows computer again! That is my recommendation for you O/P.

@AngelPuppy1, pretty much. I do use my desktop twice a month to pay bills online from my bank. But I have used my iPad to go online and pay bills while on vacation. There’s not a branch that I can go to if I need to deposit a check so I use my iPad for that because it’s so easy. My desktop is an Apple MacMini and I have my own monitor and keyboard that I hooked up to it. If something happened to it, I’m not sure if I would replace it, get a MacBook laptop, or just use my iPad. The only thing is it might be easier to share a laptop than having only one iPad. I’m on mine all of the time, checking email, playing games, recipes, googling things, etc. My husband has his own to do with what he wants. I can go on and on, lol. Any other questions that I can answer, I’ll be happy to. Watch some of the presentations on HSN today and tomorrow, I have learned a lot from them (especially the two guys on QVC).

Thank you. We aren't gamers, really. But you never know. Since I am retiring, that might be something I will start!!

Does CB stand for chromebook? If so, you mean it has they have built in virus protection? This is something I am extremely worried about. With the IMac (Apple),we never really worried about it because their protection is excellent and they send updates all the time. With the though of getting a new device, I am worried about protection --- what to get, the expense, etc.

Thank you. I know that DH will not be on a device much. He might read the paper on it. Likes to check lottery numbers and things like that. I am the one who will be on it the most.

@Still Raining wrote:I have both a laptop and an iPad and they are different experiences. Perhaps you two need to think what and where you may wish to hold a tablet as opposed to if you want to sit at laptop. I have never found a laptop good to just hold.
I was thinking that the functions were more important. But are the functions of them basically the same? I think that DH would like to be able to sit in his hair and use it. Me --- I'd probably still sit at my desk and use it but might occasionally use in other rooms. Thank you!!
@AngelPuppy1I still use Office for some work related things and do not find that Numbers is as good. So for me a laptop (on a table) is needed. For longer emails I find the laptop keyboard better too. Easy to get spoiled.
