I recently shopped for a new cell phone.  I really liked the Google Pixel phones.  We ended up with new iphones, but the Pixels were my second choice.

The arrier you use is the most important thing. I would buy an IPhone from Apple. Apple phones brought direct from the company are unlocked.

They can be used on most cellular carrier. 

I have an older Samsung Note 10 plus on a  Verizon  5G plan. I use a phone until the apps will not work.  I will probably buy a new phone in 2024. 

Apple phones are the best phone for most people. Each carrier has their own unlocked phone policy. Verizon will allow customers to unlock a phone after you pay for it. Verizon has a Pre-Paid plan. You do have pay for the phone when you start service.

Motorola is a good provider, but you need an 5G phone. Most people purchase unlocked Samsung phones from Best Buy or Samsung.com. 

AT&T is great carrier, but don't buy a phone from them.  

I am a techie who likes Samsung tablet and their phones.

I have an Iphone which is good but expensive.  When my LG tracphone went outdated, I was given a replacement of an Android -- Moto G.  It's a great phone.  I just buy the cards for $20 plus tax every few months and it works like a champ!  I almost like it better than the Iphone!

I highly recommend getting a refurbished phone from Amazon. I bought a "premium" refurbished Samsung s21 for $300 and it's amazing and a joy to use. I'm sure they have similar IPhones if that's what you choose.

All I've ever used has been an iPhone.  I'm used to it so that's was I got again a few months ago,  DH chose an android phone (Samsung Galaxy A-53) and loves it.
