Need Advice About Videos and Pictures

I am hoping someone can advise me about this problem. We have an HP notebook with Vista. When I get e-mail with pictures (not attachments) or there is a website with an embedded video, all I get is an empty box with a red "x" in the upper left corner.

I used to be able to right click the extra, select "show picture" and then the picture/access to the video would appear. However, that doesn't even work now.

What do I need to do? I figure it is some setting that I have to adjust, but I am not sure what it would be.

Thank you for any assistance/advice you may be able to share.
