I am trying to set up my new free phone from tracphone. They are asking for the password off our router. I entered the password that is on the bottom of the router and it is not accepting it. What am I doing wrong? I know that DH and I did not change the password when we set up our router. We are not smart enough to do that LOL.
Is there a generic password that can be used. In the meantime, my old phone is dead. This router business is part of the set up.
Can anyone throw us a lifeline?

@tends2dogs Try using one of the other numbers on the router. I think the serial number worked for me.

Thanks, @Kachina624 . I will try that. I need a magnifying glass in order to read the small print. Dang, the eyes ain't what they used to be! I'll let you know......

Do you have a modem and a router? If you have both I'd say sign in using the modem user info and password.
If it's just a modem are you sure you clicked on the right wifi connection when the list comes up? I just had to activate a new phone today and my modem was a couple down on the list even though I was sitting right next to it.

@Kachina624 I tried EVERY number on the bottom of that router. Keeps coming up authentication problem. ![]()

@pigletsmom I am sure I chose the correct name. It comes up as the brand name of the router.
We also have a modem from the cable company. Is that what you are suggesting I use?

When we connect our Tracfones to our internet service, we use the password that we set up for our modem. (We keep it written on a card, just in case our memory fails us!)
If you never changed it, you may have to contact your internet provider.
@tends2dogs - Make sure you're using the correct wi-fi. My DH couldn't get his new phone to connect, until I pointed out he was using the wrong one.

Still no luck. I have tried all the numbers on the router and the modem. ![]()

Maybe the problem is your new free tracfone ???
I have read here that some of the new free phones sent to them were usless pieces of junk.

@tends2dogs You only alternative is to call your Internet Service Provider and see if the can help.
When you do get a phone working, take a close-up picture of the device with the correct password. The camera magnifies it and makes the number easy to read. Works on any small print. I've used this trick on pill bottles too.
