There's nothing that can't be fixed, but many companies choose to offer a lower level of support for their lower priced products. It costs money to build and stockpile replacement parts for items, and with a smaller profit margin it's often not worthwhile for a company to stockpile service parts for the lower end lines. If they don't have replacement parts then the product can't be repaired and must be replaced. In some cases a part will be poorly designed and even with a large stockpile of spare parts that stockpile can be depleted quickly leaving no more parts for future repairs.
Some manufacturers hope that once you've experienced their lower end product that they can then sell you on the upgrade when the lower end product dies. "Oh, we can't fix that. It's made to be disposable. But our higher end model, which just so happens to be on sale this week, is serviceable for the life of the product." (Hint: Find out what that phrase "life of the product" means. Very often it's not forever and ever.)
I think we're on the verge of a whole new era in fixing broken items. The new 3D printers can pretty much eliminate the need to stock any replacement parts as pretty much everything can simply be printed out on demand. I would not be at all surprised to find a national chain of repair shops opening up that promises to fix anything broken and uses 3D printers to make the necessary replacement parts. With the frequency some people drop smartphones, laptops, or expose them to water, such a shop could very likely keep very busy. Add in the ability to fix small appliances and other devices and a shop like this could do very well.

This is so true...just like anywhere.I actually think it even depends on who waits on you at a store ....it sure was the case for me .I like oreck....own two. I have used a Dyson but they are bulky and don't go flat to go under things. Plus I hate a dust cup Bachmar.Try another person higher up or contact the company directly. Good luck!!

Then it stopped working, but when we took it in to be serviced @ an Oreck center, they said, "Uh-oh--this isn't from QVC, is it? We aren't able to get parts for their models, so you'll have to go through them."
I'd contact Oreck directly. If this service center is an Oreck-authorized dealer, they should be able to service your product, regardless of where it was purchased. I have to agree with some others - this service center just wants you to purchase directly from them. I'm not sure Oreck would be happy about any of their service centers implying that the product you have is deliberately made inferior and, for that reason, I think they should be notified of your experience.

Definitely let Oreck corporate know exactly what happened and let them know that you'll be waiting for them to resolve the problem.
Good luck!

Just read the posts.
The fix it stores (Oreck), tell these horror stories so you will purchase from them. They won't fix it either. Have had this happen to me.
It comes down to the money.

I bought that air cleaner too from the Q but after opening the box, it didn't work at all. I even called Oreck immediately and they told me to return it to the Q.
There weren't anymore available so I never did get a replacement and probably thankful I didn't.
Many manufacturers sell a different model to the Q so no one can search and find the same at a lesser cost. If you look carefully there's always some feature that is unique or even color and that will tip you off that it's a Q only item.
I'm so sorry to hear about your air cleaner, I do like the Oreck products though. Hope you get it fixed by someone, I'm sure you probably could take it apart too?????

The Oreck service centers vary widely in their "service." We purchased an Oreck locally, when we got it back from the annual service the brush roller had not been cleaned and they charged us for stuff that was supposed to be included, overall it was not serviced as promised. My husband was so mad, unbeknownst to me he put it out with the garbage. I would have taken it back and raised holy heck. That center has been closed for a few years now, I suspect we were not the only people unhappy with them.
