My QVC Oreck was unable to be serviced!

Not happy. We had purchased an expensive Oreck air cleaner (large floor model) about 4 years ago, and until recently were able to buy filters here @ QVC. Then it stopped working, but when we took it in to be serviced @ an Oreck center, they said, "Uh-oh--this isn't from QVC, is it? We aren't able to get parts for their models, so you'll have to go through them." Well, QVC doesn't carry this item anymore, so we are out the investment. Be warned--I never would have purchased an Oreck from QVC if I had known it would never be able to be serviced, because I think it is wasteful to spend $$ on electronics and consider them "throw-aways" after a few short years. I wonder what other items won't be fixable that we got from here?!

Re: My QVC Oreck was unable to be serviced!

I purchase mine at Costco and if I have a problem....it isn't a problem. I bought a Dyson (which is much better than an Oreck-which I owned and threw away) and had to return it after 6 months. Got a new one and they gave me the discounted price that I originally purchased the Dyson at when it was on sale. I have the D41 animal version and it came with many attachments.

And I hope the moderator does not remove my post...because it is a fact that there are less headaches when making this type of purchase.

QVC didn't build these, Oreck did. You need to contact someone higher up the "food chain".

Or go to a different Oreck location- they're all different customer service wise.

I will say about this issue the same thing I say on this forum about buying a computer from a 3rd party. It can turn into a very long "catch 22" and who wins? I do know that the customer is usually the one who is doing all the "chasing part".

Re: My QVC Oreck was unable to be serviced!

It never occurred to us that the problem would be the Oreck service center--it was an Oreck item, so if they said it can't be fixed by them because it was purchased via QVC, then what are we supposed to think? They kept it & had several specialists & a visiting manager of some sort check it out, and all concurred that since it came from QVC and was made special for them, that they couldn't get the replacement parts. Why? They mentioned that it is considered a throw-away item when it breaks down. I would have appreciated knowing that little factoid before spending so much on it. I guess they make more $$ if it breaks down, because then you hopefully repurchase from them. That is a lesson learned. I will be much more careful what type of item I purchase from QVC next time.

To the person who didn't have a problem getting their Oreck serviced...maybe it was because it was a vacuum cleaner, and not an air cleaner. I'm glad you were able to get it repaired, because we also have an Oreck vacuum cleaner that needs servicing--and it came from QVC. The problem this service center had was with the air cleaner being from QVC.

That said, I will mention that recently we were impressed with the way QVC handled the recent Dyson recall. We have 2 heater-fans from QVC, and they both had to be shipped back to Dyson & fixed, then shipped back to us. QVC sent us notification that this was needed, which we appreciated since it is a fire risk. I can't think of any other company who would do this for it's customers. Kudos on that, QVC. Win some, lose some I guess!

Thank you for your imput on this issue with the Oreck, everyone who responded.

Re: My QVC Oreck was unable to be serviced!

I found the Oreck stores are very quick to put down the items sold at QVC or Costco. No matter which Oreck store I went to they consistently referred to them as bottom of the barrel basic models. I realize everyone has their own sales pitch, but it seemed to me they were biting the hand that feeds them. Whether it's from QVC or Costco- or the actual store it's still keeping their name 'out there' & relevant.

Re: My QVC Oreck was unable to be serviced!

I had problems with an Oreck vacuum purchased at QVC and taken to the Oreck store for repair. The man there said it would be a very expensive repair, and that the Orecks sold here are not the same as the ones they sold. I ended up buying a more expensive vacuum from the Oreck store, and it hasn't had any problems in 7 years. I take it to Oreck for annual check-ups. I was thinking that I should contact Oreck headquarters. I wonder if they are aware of this tactic by the local dealers. I don't think it helps their reputation one bit.
