Thank you all for the help. Now that I've figure out what my problem was I feel kind of foolish. At some point I had turned on the icloud and that's where my pictures and videos were. 

 

I'm sure it's obvious that I am not at all tech savvy. It took a little looking to figure out how to access icloud but I found it and was able to download my pics and videos to my pc.
