Missing photos from camera roll on iphone

I've searched online for answers but haven't found any that helped so I'm turning to the tech experts on this board since y'all are always so helpful.

I took some pictures and a video on my iphone but when I tried to view them on my phone they aren't in my camera roll. In the past if my memory was too full, my phone wouldn't let me take pictures so I'm thinking that's not the problem.

Any ideas on where those pics and video are or how I can access them?

Any help would be truly appreciated -- the pics I took were once in a lifetime pics.

Re: Missing photos from camera roll on iphone

Did you transfer or backup the photos to your computer?  If not, connect your phone and back up your photos.  Once transfered, see if the "missing photos" are still there.

There is a program called Recuva that is a free download, it was the last time I looked, that can recover photos that have been deleted by mistake.  Download, install the program, then run it with your iPhone connected to your computer.  When you use the program, you select what you want it to scan.  This can be the hard drive, a SD card or your phone.  Have it scan your phone and see if the missing photos are still there.

This is a perfect example why you must backup your phone on a regular basis.  This is for all phones, not just an iPhone.  It's also a reason why you should backup your computer on a regular basis.  If you have once in a lifetime photos, you don't have only one copy.  Good luck.

Re: Missing photos from camera roll on iphone

I'm afraid I can't help you too much. I'm not an Apple guy, but if you use a micro SD card in your phone you might want to check and be sure it wasn't dislodged. If the photos/video were on that and it worked loose the phone wouldn't see them.

My Android phone automatically copies my photos/videos and uploads them to both my Google Photos cloud and my Amazon Photos cloud, so I have copies of everything here, there and everywhere. I'm assuming Apple would have a similar option, so you might want to nose around and find the right setting. It's a neat feature that keeps your photos/video safe and it's fast. I took some photos of my flowers the other day and by the time I got inside, the photos were already on both clouds.

By the way, if you're ever with someone who wants to take, shall we say "explicit" photos of you and promises to let you decide if y'all keep the photos or delete them, there's a good chance that before you can hit that delete button the photos will already be copied to the person's cloud and even though you think it's gone, it could still be around and safe on his cloud. On my phone the uploading is done automatically and seamlessly. As soon as I snap the photo the upload to the cloud starts.

As gardenman posted, you can check your iCloud storage and see if the pictures are there.  Sometimes my iPhone with sync wirelessly with my computers and sometimes not.  I usually connect the iPhone with the charging cable.  I don't use my iCloud strage because I need a lot more than 5 GB and don't want to pay extra.

@glb613 -- I tried to transfer my pictures to my pc but for some reason wimdows10 doesn't seem to recognize my phone. Itunes recognizes it so I don't know what's up with that. I've tried every fix that I could find on Microsoft's site and so far none of them have worked. I may have to hook up our old pc and load them into it just so that I can free up the space on my iphone.

iTunes would be the way to connect your IPhone to  a computer. You should do a Google search for a solution.  Make sure you are using a version of ITunes that will work with Window 10,and your phone.

What happens when you plug in your phone?  Do you see a adding new hardware icon? I ask because I don't use Windows anymore, haven't seen Windows 10 so I'm going with my memory.

When I used Windows,  I used Windows Explorer to transfer everything.  I know with Windows 8, when you saw the tiles you could start typing what you wanted and Windows would find it.  Anyway, do a search for Windows Explorer and use it.  It is a list of everything on your computer.  It should show your phone if it is plugged in and on.  When you see your phone, double click on it and see if you can find the photos.

On Windows10 it's called file explorer. With my phone plugged in and on it doesn't show up in the file explorer.

Absolutely nothing happens when I plug in my phone. I've checked and the apple driver is up to date. It just boggles my mind. Think I either need to go back to our old computer or it's time to get a Mac. It's just getting beyond frustrating!!!

If your computer doesn't recognize your phone, that's a problem.  Is there any other computer you could try and connect your phone.  A friend or relative?  Do you have iCloud storage?

Re: Missing photos from camera roll on iphone

When your computer doesn't recognize the phone you have several options to try. First shut down both the phone and computer and restart them. If that doesn't solve the problem, try using a different USB port. If you're now using one on the front or top of the case, try one on the back. The USB ports on the back of your computer connect directly to the motherboard while those on the top or front of your case use a cable that could have failed to connect to the motherboard. In some cases plugging the phone into the USB port multiple times helps. If you have any other Windows open, minimize those and look to see if there's a notice asking if you want to trust that computer. Updating the iPhone driver is always a good idea.
