Ha, Chickenbutt! For me, it's the Mah Jong game on my Win 7 laptop that I'd miss. I don't play all the time, but once I get started, I can't leave it alone.

I just want to add that I don't have Win 8, but I have read lots of the complaints, questions and answers on this board about it, as well as other computer issues. I feel like I've gathered enough info from here that I'd have absolutely no problem with it at all. Sometimes people just don't like changing their habits, I guess. So, don't ever feel like your advice is being wasted.........Laura is taking it all under advisement!

Hey 2blonde! Here is a youtube video that EXACTLY tells you what to do, to get back those Windows7 games -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yg8k6Xcp9Pg

Just listen to some of it first to get the cadence and the idea of what you're going to go, because the guy talks so slow that it can be annoying. So get that out of the way and get an idea. Then just start over and follow the instructions one thing at a time.

I would pause the video, do one thing, then start the video again to get the next thing, etc. One way I found it easier was that the thing you are going to save from a Windows 7 computer just save that to a flash drive or external hard drive. Then plug that into the Windows8 computer and continue on. I just found that the easiest way to go.

It's not at all complicated and you'll have your game, or games, on your next computer in a few minutes. If you haven't purchased a Win8 computer yet, just go ahead and do the first half from your Win7 computer, get that saved onto an external source, and save the video URL for future use, then, when you do update, you just start in the middle and put it onto the new one.

It works great and is very simple. Smiley Happy

Re: Microsoft has announced WINDOWS 10

Ford - Truly, no worries. It wasn't just about that. I could write a book of examples of people asking for help on this board, then totally disregarding all of it. I was thinking collectively when I mentioned that. (bit of a peeve for me)

I like to help whenever I can. I'm sure there are a lot of people who do, so it is not personal for me. You just feel badly when somebody could so easily be rid of their frustration but they don't choose to listen.

Smiley Happy Happy day!

Re: Microsoft has announced WINDOWS 10

I LOVED, and I mean really loved, Windows XP for many years. Once I started school for Network Security, I began working with Vista, and boy did I curse out that OS at least thirty times per day. However, I began to be very fond of Vista, in the way people become fond of the runts of puppy and kitten litters. Smiley Wink Moved on to Windows 7...loved it in theory....HATED, and still HATE it in practice. Despite what everyone says about loving Windows 7, I have never seen a Microsoft OS screw itself up so often after MS updates...EVER! When Windows 8 came out, I did a lot of reading about improvements that were made "under the hood" so to speak, and I was impressed. I tried out Windows 8, and when it ran with zero hiccups on two ancient laptops, and faster than any previous OS, I fell in love. When Windows 8.1 rolled out, I hopped on up to that, and found the minor improvements in that to my liking as well.

Here is the best part...for anyone who cannot make their way in Windows 8, there is a beautiful little secret. Press the Windows button on your keyboard, along with the letter C key. The Charms bar will pop up on the side of the screen. Select the magnifying glass symbol to open search. Then, simply type in whatever you need to find or do. Try it out...it is amazing. I used to despise the search function on all other Windows versions. It was slow and clunky. Windows 8/8.1 search is a thing of beauty!

And, I really like both the tiles and the regular desktop. I used Start8 for a while to return the start button and program menu, but found that with Windows 8.1, finding programs from the Start screen (the tiles) is easy. Windows 8.1 has a little down arrow showing at the bottom left of the screen. You just click on that, and it lists all the programs in a way that is similar to the old start/programs listing. I love it!

Re: Microsoft has announced WINDOWS 10

I have been in computing more than 30 years and the NUMBER ONE thing I have learned is: Whatever the new software or hardware is, wait just a little while to see if it needs quickly updated (UH-OH!) then get it, learn it and shut up because if you ever get more than one or two majorreleases behind, you will often be VERY sorry. There will be things you love and things you despise, but you might as well move with the herd.

Re: Microsoft has announced WINDOWS 10

I think the most annoying thing about ""8"" is when I'm doing something and accidentally go too far right or left and things pop out! (like settings etc. which I do not need when I'm typing) And having to ""slide"" to find my stuff.

Be still my heart, yet another OS from Windows... I'm beginning to actively dislike this company's antics.

LOL!!!!! I have been there since the beginning of Windows and long before. That's why I made the comment about them above. They just CAN'T leave it alone! And so many of the fabulous ideas of theirs just lead to a kluge--which is a bunch of stuff poorly patched together to try to make something intended for something else work for your project. Doesn't that describe every few versions of Windows? {#emotions_dlg.bored}

Re: Microsoft has announced WINDOWS 10

I loved my XP Pro computer. It was awesome. Sometimes I don't understand why they think they have to mess with systems. It wasn't broke; it was a very stable system. I just loved it. When I got a new computer, DH took my old XP Pro system and he thought it was fine. I, on the other hand, was spastic. I went from my XP to Vista. Can't tell you how many times I threatened to throw the whole computer into the pool. What a total PITB Vista is! But I dealt with it for quite a few years and got used to it. Didn't like it, but I could deal.

It took me a good week or so, but now that I'm used to Win 8.1, I'm fine with it. Got rid of the tiles, set it up to run without that Start screen and to boot right into the desktop. Got rid of those ridiculous charms at the right side of the screen. I have it pretty much set up to run like my dearly loved XP. DH has my Vista computer and he hates it. But like me, he's learned to deal.

I made up my mind when I got the new computer that I survived Vista and, by golly, I was going to get the hang of 8.1, too. I also bought Office 2013 and I think I had more trouble getting used to that than I did with 8.1! My 8.1 computer runs my old programs, even one of my old WordPerfect applications. My old Paint Shop Pro 7 runs beautifully on it (although the Help software won't run). I can run Animation Shop with no trouble. I have old versions of PhotoShop, Dreamweaver, and Illustrator....they run fine. I have an old MasterCook version that runs OK and my old Cook'n with Betty Crocker also works, except for the Help software.....there's a .dll file missing in 8.1 that won't let the Help software to many of the older versions run properly. It's minor for me; these are old programs that I'm used to and understand how to operate. As long as they work OK, I'm fine.

I really like 8.1. Now. I'm fine with it. It's a computer and it does what I need it to do.
