I purchased this a week ago. I just set it up today and I'm totally confused. It gives me 4 sizes of the screen to select. No matter what size I select the picture does not fill up the whole screen.

There is a huge grey border on each side. These borders are 3.75 inches on EACH side !!!

Am I missing something ? How can they call it a 40" TV with these huge borders ????

My LG TV in the bedroom gives 6 sizes to select from and everything I watch takes up the full screen.

We bought this TV to replace a 32". With these borders the new TV is NOT bigger than my old tube TV that works perfectly !!!

Am I doing something wrong ?

Thanks

I suspect those bars on the side are because you are viewing the channel in standard definition. Are you using and HD cable box? If so, all the HD channels should fill up the screen. However if the channel is in SD, for example on my cable HSN is in SD and has black bars on the sides but QVC is in HD so it fits the full screen. I think you need to make an appointment with your cable provider. The old TV probably was not HD so didn't require a special box,

You need to subscribe to HD cable TV service and get either a HD cable box or a HD DVR.

Thanks so much guys. I already had the box so I called my cable company and 15 minutes later I had HD channels.
I almost packed the tv up to send back.
Thanks again.
