About a month ago, I bought a new MacBook Pro (with retina display). My ipad is ipad 3 and I will replace it in the Spring when Apple is supposed to update ipad.
Since I bought my new computer, I hardly ever use my ipad. My ipad is 9.7". I was thinking I might try the ipad mini instead of the larger ipad.
Looking for comments about the smaller ipad. Is it too small? Are you sorry you didn't get th larger one?
Pros and cons, pls. TIA. LM

I have a 2015 MacBook Pro and bought an iPad mini 4 this spring. I'm not sorry I bought the mini...I love it! I keep it by my bed, and it is great to use at night to surf or read. I bought a Speck folio case to use with it, and it works great...Highly recommend and would buy again.

I use my mini constantly. Most days, I never use my iMac. Love it, except I cannot type accurately on it. I am an accurate and fast typist on a regular keyboard but not good on the small iPad keys.

Thanks @libbyannE. I am seriously considering the smaller one. I think it will be good for travel as well. I am thinking I probably will use it to borrow books from the library. LM

@Ainhisg, do you use your MacBook Pro to browse? That is what I have been doing. I really like this laptop. LM

I have an iMac, Macbook Pro, iPhone and an iPad. I hardly use my iPad and will probably not replace it when it becomes obsolete. I'm one of the few that prefers a large screen and use my iMac 80% of the times. If I need to check something while away from home, I use my iPhone. The only time I really use my iPad is when I travel.

I'm retired, so I start out my day with it at the kitchen table with coffee. lol I go to all my "usual" sites...email, FB, here...lol... I like the big screen and type so much better. I also do all my online purchases from it since I use a rebate site, and it is easy to switch back and forth between the sites, type in the info to purchase, etc. I also have a blog, and I need a laptop (or desktop--probably my next purchase) to work on it easily.
After I've done my "morning routine," for the most part...I put it up unless I'm working on my blog. We have two highly energetic dogs, so in the main area of the house, I use a cheapie Android tablet or the Amazon Fire 7 (which I dislike--and have designated as a reader since the whole tablet is so slow, lacks color, and is inefficient). That way, if they should knock the tablet out of my hand, it's no big deal since it wasn't expensive.
Once the dogs are asleep for the night, then I use my iPad Mini. The color is beyond belief, the touchscreen so responsive, and it is so fast! I got mine at Best Buy for $299 ($100 off), and they're that price this week if you're interested. I love the voice to text on the iPad...saves typing, and it is accurate for the most part. I really encourage you to get the Speck case to go with it...it works so well and has the auto off/on feature. When you open it or close it, it turns your tablet off or on. I know we can't post links here, but if you copy and paste this in the Best Buy search bar, the case I'm talking about will come up. It's on sale this week, too.

@glb613, thanks for the comments. That is where I think I am going. I will get a mini this time and see how it goes. I love the MacBook Pro. LM
PS, I have an iphone 6+ and use that for around the city. Love that too.

I rarely use my ipad anymore since I bought my iphone 6+. Prior to that I'd considered getting the ipad mini but I'm glad I waited. For me, my 6+ is the perfect fit.

@Ainhisg, thanks for the info. I am retired as well, lucky us!!! I am in Canada but I can still shop at Best Buy and Amazon. I bought a shield for my MacBook Pro at Amazon at one third of the cost of Apple's version. I will check out the Speck Case.
There is an ipad mini 4? Mine ipad 3 is so old now, the case is showing some wear.
I was able to set up my Sony ereader on the MacBook using a library called Calibre. Sony was bought by Kobo. Too bad it wasn't the other way around. My Sony ereader is 5 years old and still much better than Kobo. I can't borrow books from the library though because I can't get my ereader recognized on the old Sony software. Apple has done something new to the MacBook's that keeps it from using old software. Didn't like that but Calibre was my go around. I was thinking I would use ipad mini for epub books.
Thanks for the comments and Merry Christmas! LM
