I know what Yahoo instant messenger is. I've used it. Messages does the same thing, except it lets you do it using a variety of internet based email and chat systems like yahoo, google, AOL ect. You can chat with your yahoo friends and with other friends that use different instant messaging applications.

What I'm saying is you can use Messages instead of yahoo instant messenger to do the same thing. You just have to go into Internet Accounts on your macbook and add your yahoo account information.

As far as your email notifications, You can use the Mail application for that, you just need to set it up. It basically has yahoo forward your emails to your macbook Mail application where you can read them, save them or delete them without having to go to yahoo's webpage.

Ok so how do I get messages I am not following the process, see to be having all sorts of Yahoo issues today, my e mail app on my phone has decided to c++ap out also

What version of OS X are you running on your Mac?

Messages is an app that you'll find in Applications. If you are using Yosemite and also have an iPhone you can now send SMS text messages from your computer to anyone, just like you always have done on your iPhone. Previously, the Apple Messages app would only let you text other Apple device users from the computer.

I just upgraded to 10.10 and Yahoo Messenger is not compatitable with it. SMS messages count against your phone plan where the yahoo ones do not

Re: Mac system upgrade 10.10 and Yahoo messanger

This is what you need to do:

You go to system preferences (on the dock and looks like a gear), internet accounts and add your Yahoo mail account. Messages is located on the dock, is bright blue and has a dialog circle with 3 dots. You now can use messages to send texts through your Yahoo contacts. You no longer need to use Yahoo messages.

You can also get your Yahoo mail through the mail app on the dock. Open mail (it looks like a stamp), click on mail at the top left and select add an account. Fill in your Yahoo information, your mail name and password, and it will add the account. You can import your Yahoo mail boxes.

These is basic computer tasks. It's not difficult and you really need to learn how to do it. Print out the instructions, (mine or the other replies that have the same instructions) and do it. Once you do new tasks, you'll gain confidence and will be able to do more.

The questions you asked were about texting on your macbook not your phone, so whatever your phone plan text limits are, aren't applicable.

It all makes no sense and its not Yahoo IM, which is what I am looking for. I like to keep my life and computers simple.

Thank you all but I will just wait for the company to upgrade their program

I think you could really use a good book on how to work with OSX. The stuff we've been posting in here is OSX 101. It's not anything complicated at all. If you had just followed the very basic instructions posted numerous times you'd already been texting using your yahoo account.

Hi, oxox! I don't use Yahoo, but I do know they've been having technical problems for several days. If you haven't already done so, you might want to start a discussion in the Yahoo support community. You can search for existing discussions or start a new one. Here's a link:

While everyone realizes that you use yahoo IM, which is a separate program on your Mac, I don't think you realize what everyone is suggesting. The Apple iMessages app, already installed on your Mac will support instant messages from apple users AND your yahoo contacts. You just need to set up your yahoo account in iMessage settings. Once you do this, then you click on the iMessage app to do your yahoo instant message conversations. You won't need the specific yahoo program anymore.
