Re: Looks like I need a new computer, sigh.

Hi @SaRina - you might want to ditch Microsoft all together and look at Chromebooks.  I got one for my DH last year (less than $300) and he loves it (he is so low tech he should be using a chisel and stone tablet).  All he does is surf to read articles, email, and sometimes shops.  So for him it is perfect.  Just a thought!  ****** luck - I will be in the market for a new laptop soon but I have a friend at work who will help me configure what I get.

Thanks very much for the suggestion, @ceekay.  There's nothing I'd rather do at this point than ditch Microsoft.  I'm going to google Chromebooks right now and I'll also speak to the salesperson about it a bit later to see if it can cover the thingsI like to do.  :-)

(I'm probably just a step or two above your DH, lol)

@apple1964, while it may not make sense to you (or others), it makes sense for me.  Everyone's computer skills, usage, time, and interest are different.  I am at the lower end of all those factors and do not need a more complex computer with a greater number of features.  Never will.  What I've been using is more than adequate for me.   A computer is just not a big part of my life and I'm not that dependent on it for everyday living.  Really not at all dependent.  I use a computer mostly for enjoyment.  :-)

Except for 2  many years old tablets , we are an all Dell family,a windows desktop and laptop and a recently purchased Dell chromebook. We have had very good luck with our Dell products. We purchase from their website and they deliver the next day,the overnight shipping is no additional charge. Our previous Dell desktop was about 15 years old but had to be replaced because it became obsolete. Otherwise it still was working well.

Re: Looks like I need a new computer, sigh.

I am a chromebook lover and use one daily but I have to say it is not what I would buy if that was going to be the only computer in the house. It does not have the memory space needed to store a lot of photos or any other large amount of data. For instance I had to move all my genelogy stuff over to our windows 10 desktop because it had bogged down the chromebook. I also have a difficult time printing from it on the rare occasions I need to so I send whatever I want to print over to my desktop and print from there. This also doesn't have the business apps so I have to type an important letter etc. that is done on thew dell desktop too.Since those things are rare for me to use it is fine to just do them on the windows computer but if ALL you will have  in the house is your chromebook I would say it may be inadequate.
