Just wanted to put up something other than threads about IPad/Pods/Readers and such. Since 3D will be, in my opinion, the next BIG thing to come to home TV viewing I think it is a good topic. Many will say, "who needs and/or wants 3D?"

I say it will be the same people that also said "who needs TV in color/a VC WHAT? Oh VCR,who needs it?/who needs pay-TV such as cable and satellite/High Definition, never heard of it much less want it/. And now we find the majority of all households having HD capable TV sets. Whaaaaaaaa happened?

I foresee 3D home viewing being improved and more and more of it being availble for viewing in the future, much like I saw and went throught the "coming of the beta versus the VHS, and much later the HD/DVD versus the Blu-ray/DVD."

For those that haven't experienced a full movie or several different 3D demo's of this, in a home more suited to it's viewing than a well lit big box or small Video/Audio Store, you are in for the treat of your life. This new 3D is not the old type, for those old enough to remember the 3D of decades past. It is much like 1080p viewing, except better, where a person feels immersed into the scenes, not so much the things that shoot out towards your face, which still are contained in this type of 3D.

Many seem more into the "internet connected TV sets" that can be used for many "apps". Like "gardenman" said some time back, if you want to use "internet apps", buy a Blu-ray DVD player with WiFi in it. And I say better yet, "buy a 3D Blu-ray Player with WiFi and the "Internet apps".

Right now for me the only 3D content I have available is the small number of movies either produced in "True 3D" or those that were filmed in 2D and converted to 3D. Although converted into 3D, these movies are something to see. Obviously those done originally in 3D are better yet when viewing them. I do not have DirecTV, which is now offering ESPN 3D network. And from my understanding, Sony/Discovery Network and IMAX are now joining together to put up a 24/7 3D network early this year. With a little luck for me, maybe this one will be available to us Dish Network Customers.

So 3D is not something that "is going to be", it is something that "already is". It will only get bigger and bigger as more viewing becomes available, and like most things in the Electronic Revolutions, prices for these things will begin dropping. I prefer enjoying them for months, maybe years, even though there is not a lot of it presently, as opposed to missing out on this enjoyment to save myself a few $$$$$. But, that is just me and I've been an Audiophobe since high school in the early 1950's.

Comments/Questions?? That' why I put this up as I think there might be some that are in the market for a new or newer or bigger HDTV. If these people are not considering getting a 3D capable or 3D "out of the box ready", I think you might want to reconsider before making your purchase.

Most of the 3D sets now produced not only will show 3D content, but some contain better circuitry which will produce even better 2D content when viewing.

Happy 2011 to all here, and especially so for all those that have been here for years willing to share their electronic knowledge with the many that not as informed, and just might need some help with many things electronic.
