Laptop Update

I've had my Sony laptop for 1 year, on June 11th. Sony has done updates every month, but now that the 1 year warranty has expired, do I need to check for updates for my laptop at sony e-support? If so, what is necessary for me to update. This is my first laptop and I've had no problem with it.

I'm not very tech savvy, just thought someone could advise me.
