Re: Laptop Battery Question?

Per HP's site:

The battery doesn't have to be removed. However if it's not used it should be discharged down to 5% once a month.

If a notebook isn't going to be used/plugged in for more than 2 weeks, the battery should be removed and stored. It should be checked every 6 months to make sure the charge isn't below 50%.

Re: Laptop Battery Question?

I never ever heard of taking it completely out, maybe this is what happened to my HP mini battery.

Re: Laptop Battery Question?

It was recommended for both of my HP notebook computers. Since I used them on AC power 99% of the time, I took the battery out and stored it in a drawer. Once every 1-2 months, I put it in, used the computer on battery power, let it run down to 20%, charged it then took it out. I believe the guy who bought it leaves the battery in all of the time. Whether it ruins the battery or not, I'll never know.

Re: Laptop Battery Question?

I have used the same Toshiba laptop for 7 years, plugged into the wall. Rarely used it on battery alone. I have let the battery run down a few times, though, by accident and it has worked fine.
