My old TV is finally going.    It sits on a wooden chest in a bedroom and will be watched occasionally.  It's not the main TV in the house.   So, it's time to start shopping.

Questions ........  I'm not looking for a lot of whistles and buzzers, but would love to know what you like or don't like about your most recent TV purchase.    This will be kept for a number of years.

Do you have especially good luck with a brand?

Any other feedback you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

BYW, I stopped at the local Walmart today to look at TVs, and was surprised by the difference in the clarity and brightness (or not) on different screens.   This makes me wonder if this must be selected in person ... or is it possible to find a good deal online and be happy with it?

TIA !!!

I've had very good luck with Sharp Acquos. I bought mine from SAMs Club. In fact, I bought all 4 of my current TVs from SAMs Club as I found they had the best prices for really good quality TVs. I also really like Samsong and Vizio (which is the same as Sony). If you really want to read about featores, etc., I recommend going to CNET dot com.

Re: LOOKING FOR A NEW TV

[ Edited ]

Last year I purchased a 40" Samsung flat screen tv for my downstairs family room from Costco.com. It's amazing - and comes with a 2 year warranty - and for another $99. u can purchase an additional 3 year warranty thru Costco (at square trade). I know ur looking for a smaller tv - so go to costco.com and see what's available. Costco recommended Samsung to me over Vizio. Read the reviews. Of course, u can't beat Costco's customer service.

I once read that stores change the quality of the pictures on the tv's that's on display --- this is probably done to sway customers to higher-priced tv's.

Forgot to mention that the 40" tv I bought from Costco -- price was $300.- it was on sale. Total Bargain!!!!!

I'm looking at different websites and noticed they sometimes have a DVD player installed, which would be a plus now that I think about it  .... anyone have any experience with these?

My main TV is a Samsung, and I love it.  I've probably had it for four or five years.  I'm getting ready to look for a new TV for my bedroom.  I'm definitely getting another Samsung.  The picture and sound are both excellent.

I was a Sony gal for umpteen years but was dissatisfied with the last 2 that I bought.

When the last one bit the dust we bought a 65" Samsung at Costco. The picture is great! It was a little hard to get used to the slim frame around it as it seems like the picture is going to run off the ends. But now that I have, the colors are so vivid and HD programs are crystal clear - sometimes a little too clear on body closeups.

The only slight drawback is the speakers are located under the TV. I guess this is common now with the slim frames. We tried a sound bar but ended up returning it.

Ours is a Smart TV but we keep it dumb.

@Tinkrbl44--------We have 2 INSIGNIAS 1 is 42" and 1 is 32". The large one we have had 5yrs, the smaller for 2yrs.  Bought my Mom a 32" for Christmas 2yrs, then she bought a 39" for her living room and a 24" for the kitchen. That's 5 Insignias between us.  We all like them, color excellent, sound excellent.  Just make sure there is an HDMI cord, if not, buy one.   PRICE is super all the time, better when a sale is on.   I would say where purchased, but naming the BLUE and YELLOW store might get deleted.  Check them out.

DO NOT GET ONE WITH DVD  player attached. I got one on my 32 inch, but don't use it.--------tedEbear

This caught my attention because my 26-year old Toshiba finally died last week and I was forced to buy a new TV.

I actually looked for the cheapest one at Walmart, thinking I would just get one to "get me by" for a few months, before deciding the brand and size that I want to get before football season begins!

Well, to my surprise, the cheapest one had the best picture!  I got a 39 inch Vizio at Walmart.  The picture, clarity and all is very very good, and the price----  the best feature of all ---  was only $209!!  I had never heard of or knew much about the Vizio brand, but since getting it home and enjoying it, I've found that it is the brand that my sister, my son and one of my best friends have!!!    So, I am happy with Vizio for now!
