in my experience - just returning to the home page does not turn off an app. I was using google maps for directions and then went back to the home page and the gps stayed open and that was how I lost those 500m.When i called tracfone service they said to be certain you close all apps you have to turn it off and then on.

Does anypone know how to turn off the GPS function on this phone? I wanted to buy the best I could achieve was to push do not accept - however, at the top of my screen I still have the gsp signal indicating it is broadcasting. I feel that is where my phone is "leaking" data time.

To turn off your location access, touch the menu button at the bottom of the phone...second button from the right. Scroll down until you see "location access". Click on that, and then turn "access to my location" off. That will turn off the GPS.

Thank you, that did it.

Fortunately, i have a bad habit of leaving my phone sitting around places like diner counters etc. so i do have it password protected or whoever was trying to hack into it that day may have gotten my credit card data or who knows what from it.

I just received the Optimus Dynamic II w/3mp camera and App Bundle from H, too. Haven't yet opened it. I'm going to hold off for a few weeks before activating it and to read the reviews.

Looks like it will be a keeper.

It appears I was correct that the GPS constantly broadcasting my location was the leaking data culprit. No drop in data today from last evening. Thank goodness for figuring that out. I could not find anything else that uses data that was open all the time. I highly recommend anyone getting this phone to turn that off - unless you really use your phones GPS a lot.

I'm happy that worked for you! Smiley Happy When you need to use navigation again, just turn the location access on and when done...off.

Yeah, I have to do the same thing when I want to use data - I have to turn on the mobile data. without that all I can do is use the phone and text and take pictures.

My DH is on a forum of people who camp and snowbird. Many who have this phone complained about losing data time and just accepted it. DH told them I had spent a day back & forth on the phone with tracfone's CS and they restored my min. so now some others are trying as well. I told him to relay the message about the GPS.

IMO this phone is a great way to sorta dip your toes into the world of the smartphone without it costing very much.It is a good place to learn about using one. I could say now - having had one - I could easily live without it and would not spend the money again. But , for anyone who wants a smart phone and doesn't want to spend $500 or more and doesn't want to have the monthly service expense - this is a very good way to go. For me , as long as this phone lasts I will continue to put min on it but when it dies I would go back to a barely smart LG 840G or whatever equivalent they have at that time. I'm sure into the future the companies will start to only offer smart phones.

Everyone is so different...now that I've had a smartphone, I will never have a feature phone again. lol I volunteer at a hospital, and this morning, it was so nice to check the weather radar before leaving the building, show a co-worker some photos I have in a Facebook album, etc...all free because of the hospital's wi-fi. I've used texting the most but think I can make 1200 texts last close to a year.

Happy Housewife, I just want to make sure you know that if you go back to a traditional Tracfone, you will lose all your minutes/texts/data per Tracfone's FAQ's page:

Q: If I don't like this smartphone, can I transfer my minutes, texts, data or service days back to a...

A: At that point you can only transfer your service days, not the minutes, texts or data.

I've only had this phone a couple months - by the time it wears out who knows what they will have or what they will be doing.
