Re: Kindle HD 8.9 32 capabilities?

If someone has trouble seeing, I wouldn't buy a 7 inch tablet. I have problems seeing using an iPad and it's 9 inches.

I got this Kindle for my mother but guess who is using it, me! She was interested at first but not really anymore. I have an iPad Air so really didn't need this, but I do like it. My mother seems to stick with her puzzle books and deck of cards!

I wonder do they have puzzles for the Kindle HD. Your mom may surprise you after all.

I did download a solitaire app and search word puzzle one. She'll do it as long as I'm sitting next to her. I don't have the time to sit with her to do all the puzzles and card games she wants. I also just got an e-mail that the new Kindle is going to be a TSV. It annoys me that if I had waited maybe not even a month for $40 more I could have gotten the latest model!

Didn't you get the bigger Kindle? I doubt the bigger newest Kindle HDX is only $40 more.

Mima you're correct I did get the 8.9 Kindle HD. I made a mistake the new Kindle is the smaller 7" size. That makes me feel a little better. This seems like a good deal to me and if I didn't already have a tablet I would look into this TSV.

I haven't seen the HDX TSV. Does it have 3G? Yours also had 3G which is worth about $100.

Mima, this is just wi-fi. It does come with a folding case, stylus, and earbuds. I still think it's not a bad price.

There is a device sold on Amazon by a company called LapWorks which is a holder for the device that clamps on and has a Velcro loop on the back for the hand so the user holds it in the palm with no effort. It's a godsend for people with arthritis. It is safer for the device has it decreases the possibility of dropping it.

This tablet on QVC is very expensive. These accessories add $70 to the actual price.

HSN has a similar device. I don't know what it's called, but if you pull up the product page on any of their tablets, the holder probably will be listed as a suggested extra purchase. I think it is $30 or $40.

Lowry and Tyzach, this is just a suggestion-but for your situations, consider contacting your local Council on Ageing as well as Lighthouse for the Blind. Medicare covers nothing as we all know-in terms of durable goods-but these two organizations may be able to help you hone in on what might work most efficiently for your parent's individual situations. There is so much coming out now-and for those in need, grants and funds to defray costs.
