This morning on my IPad under settings had notifications to update account. I could not remember my account information and was trying to remember and looking for my notebook with all information. Then received email from Apple that account locked and instructions in email to verify. Is this correct or a scam? What should I do? Your help appreciated. Southern Bee

I would not click anything and would contact Apple direct to verify. I would not use the email provided. It sounds like the messages I got last month. Funny thing, I don't own any Apple products.

I received a similar email the other day. When I checked the email address of the sender, I knew it was a scam. Just delete it and don't click on the link in the body of the email.

@SouthernBee It's a scam to get you to click on a link. I've gotten emails like that supposedly from Apple. Just send it to your Junk folder and then delete it.

The "account locked" thing is most likely a scam. I have no idea what "updating your account" means. We are Apple users. Neither message sounds legit.
Before you click or open anything, try to get in touch with Apple technical support to verify what's going on.

I forward all of those kinds of messages supposedly from Apple to reportphishing@apple.com.

I got an email from Apple that was legitimate. I had to redo my password.
It read:
Dear Customer
Your Apple ID has been locked for security reasons. To unlock it, you must verify your identity.
Unlock Account>
If you don't unlock your account before 24 hours, your account password will change automatically. You can reset your password at i forgot . apple. com
Sincerely,
Apple Support
Good advice to check with Apple first

@SouthernBee The update is real but I don't know about the email. Apple actually has humans who answer phones. I have called a few times. Go on the apple.com website and persist with links for customer service until you get the phone number you can call. It might be (800) 275-2273, but I would feel better if you got it from the apple website.

@ Montana This definitely sounds like a scam. I got this from the Apple discussions website:
While the iforgot.apple.com website is legit, the actual url underlying that link in the email does not take you there. It takes you to: https: // t.co / 8FHsrklP7G, which is definitely not an Apple website. 2 things to keep in mind: Apple will never ever send you an email stating your account has been locked.Apr 1, 2019
