Is it safe to use a light timer in an outlet strip?

It's electrical, not electronics...but all the smart people are here, so that's why I'm asking here. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

It would be an extension cord with one string of lights. Would it be safe to plug it into a timer and plug the timer into an outlet strip?
