Iphone 12 and iPad not lining up

I've never had problems with an iPad and iPhone matching up.... such as deleting a message on one deletes it on the other, etc.  I had to replace my old phone so got an iPhone 12.  I have to delete and file emails and IMs on each one.  I've tried everything from googling to spending hours on the phone with Apple.

 

Any help you can provide would be wonderful and appreciated.  Thank you.

I have an iPhone 7plus and an iPad that's about 2 years old.....since I did the current update on both, they don't seem to mesh very well. I'll get text notifications on my phone, but they won't show up on my iPad for sometimes hours....and sometimes not at all. If I'm wearing my new Apple Watch and get any notifications on it, then it may never show on my phone and iPad. Soooo frustrating. Hope you get some answers.
