I have an iPad 2 which I think takes remarkably good photos. The only trouble is you can't use it in bright sunshine as you can't see a thing. I have some posted on the Turquoise Lover's thread in the Jewelry Forum. They have an orange background. Show good detail.

The iPads and iPhones both take great pictures. Each new version seems to have upgrades to the camera, making it better. I would think the latest iPad, the iPad Air, would incorporate the best to-date technology. But, if you are buying specifically for the camera, you may want to hold off. Apple just released the iphone6 and 6+. The camera has been completely upgraded with this version. In the previews they said it is as close to DSLR.. The sample photos they showed look impressive. Put then again, current iPad and iPhone pictures look great too. So I would think that they will incorporate this latest technology into the next updated iPad. However, there is no rumor that a new iPad will be introduced in the very near future. But it's been about a year since they introduced iPad Air, so they are due for something soon.

According to the chart Dinaki posted above, all the iPad models use exactly the same technology.

Yes, that's correct, because the chart is showing the latest version of all models available from the Apple website. They don't show the earlier models specs anymore, because they are no longer offered to purchase from Apple website. But we don't know what model the poster is looking at buying. Although Apple is currently offering iPad 4, iPad Air, and the latest mini model, the poster can still buy ( for example) iPad 2 from other retailers. So I was pointing out, if the camera is the focus ( no pun invented) and ensuring you have the best, then you want to buy the most current model. But also keep in mind, the camera on the iPad and iPhone have always been great, so even if you go with an earlier model, your photos will be fine. Just not as good without the newer technology.
