No virus protection is needed, at this time, for iPads or iPhones.

I recommend that Mac computer users use a virus protection program especially if they open/share files with Windows users. Many times malware will attach itself to a file (such as Microsoft Word) that a Mac user downloads and even though the Mac operating system will not be affected, the user might pass it on to a Windows user.
Macs are not totally immune to malware. There have been a few instances where malicious programs have been released in the wild targeting Macs. I have had to clean up computers of teachers and friends who assume that they can download just any ole program and not worry about being infected.
The virus/malware program I recommend is ClamXav, free, found in the Mac App Store.

She most certainly does know what she's talking about. Cha1k is tremendously knowledgeable and experienced. She's also always generous in sharing useful information and offering help.
I use ClamXav on all my iMacs, at home and at work. As previously noted, at this time iPads and iPhones don't need virus protection.

I have no idea about computers and what's needed, but someone that called in on QVC asked the same question of the vendor about an ipad and he said "no, absolutely not -- no virus protection is needed."
