Internet accessibility while on vacation

So along with the Dell Netbook I purchase from Q, how am I able to get internet access from our hotel room while on vacation. At this hotel they do have the cord that you can connect to your Netbook or whatever you have and it costs per day for usage, but what else would I need with this? If I buy an extender cord do I just plug in and everything works fine?
