@Pezzie wrote:@SeaMaiden I just bought a new iPad two weeks ago. Mine died. I bought directly from the Apple Store. 10th gen iPad is available, but I bought the 9th gen. Regular iPad, not the pro or air.
I gave them my old iPad to destroy and recycle. As far as buy back/ trade in, I guess it depends on how old those iPad of yours are. Most likely won't get anything for them if they are very old and they have quit supporting them.
Do you back up your current iPad to the cloud? If you do, setting up your new one is a breeze. Everything that has been backed up to the cloud gets downloaded to your new pad, including your current settings etc. However, at the Apple Store they will help you set it up, if you are not sure how to do it. Just be prepared to spend some time there.
@Pezzie Interesting! Why did you choose the regular iPad and not the pro or the air? Guess I will need to do some research.
2 of my three ipads are at least 5 years old and one is 10 years old. Two will not hold a charge so I always have them hooked to the charger. Other little "things " going wrong too...nothing lasts forever....

@SeaMaiden Older ipad versions may be cheaper and just as useful, but probably have a shorter life, since, as I mentioned, eventually they are not upgradeable, and you had charging problems. Sometimes the only thing that is better is the camera. Check the display screen resolution. The processing speed may be better but not in any way anyone would notice. Check the log in method, connectors (input/output), that they meet your needs. If you want cell service, check is it 4g vs 5g. ((I did not look.). I had an ipad that was so old it could not get security upgrades. So I disconnected it from the internet (turned off wifi and cell service) and just used it to play card games until it broke it and then I took it to a recycling center.
I know with macbooks one year they changed the key board, but that wouldn't be true for the ipad. I think the operating system is everything. But for me, also want good display/resolution, cell connection, good camera.
IDK if apple provides customer service to refurbished items brought anywhere but the apple store. You can google or call apple and ask. I also don't know what warranty apple provides on old items it sells.
I like to buy the newest model, and use it until it has no life in it. I think the cash back programs are for people who always want the newest model.
I used to buy PCs many years ago, but the operating systems basically became obsolete after 3 years, and the anti-virus software was always interfering with performance. Apples are more expensive but last much longer, the operating system is easily upgraded, no need for anti-virus software, and all essential apps are included. Happy apple customer.

@SeaMaiden I basically use my iPad for emails, FT, stream a movie or surf the web. So, the regular iPad is more than adequate for my needs. My iPad that died was an iPad Air. Didn't see a need to pay for an upgrade that I did not need.

I always buy directly from Apple and make sure to get their Apple Care.
I'm currently using (and love) the iPad Pro.
If you are currently backing up everything to the cloud, set up couldn't be easier. The files will just move on to the new iPad.
And others have posted for you on how to erase the content on your older iPads.
