IPad and saved website information question

I apparently pushed the wrong button somewhere , as was trying to eliminate saved tracking. Now every time I log into my favorite sites like Qvc, Zulily etc. I have to retype my email address . It is like website is seeing my login for first time and wants me to sign up form alerts, which I already have done. Would appreciate any help fixing settings. Thank you, Susi.

Re: IPad and saved website information question

There options under settings for Safari for "prevent cross-site tracking" and "ask websites not to track me" which I have on.  I also sometimes clear my history.  None of these options cause the need of an email or user name (unless I  am trying to order or otherwise access my account).

Are your saved websites actually stored under favorites?  Even there I have never had to use an email.

Hope someone else has a answer.

Re: IPad and saved website information question

Thank you for helping out. They are all under my favorites and frequently visited. I actually turned off those two restrictions and now allow websites to track me , and allow cross tracking. It is a little better, but still keep getting those pesky pop ups wanting me to register my email for alerts. I have now signed in again, and seems ok, but then after some time has passed, I have to keep resigning in with email and password too even if not accessing account , just to get on Zulilly to just browse. Will see how it goes. Thank you again ‘Still Raining.’

@Susic@Still Raining,  You'll want to look in Settings, in Safari, under the "Autofill" option.   "Names and Passwords" should be toggled on.

Also, you can view your saved login info by looking in Settings under "Accounts and Passwords" (or "Passwords" in older iOS versions) -- that's a good way to look up a username or password when we've forgotten them.

Re: IPad and saved website information question

Thank you dooBdoo. I checked and that names and password button was toggled on. I shut down iPad and turned back on, and still have to put email and passwords into just to access some sites . Even Qvc, had to password and email just to respond to this message.  Usually just had to put just password in, not email.....

You're welcome. @Susic.   I was hoping that would be a simple fix.   A few other things come to mind.

If you use "private browsing" it could affect this.   If so, I'd turn off private browsing to see if that corrects the problem.

Another thing:   When we sign into a site the first time the iPad software usually generates a pop-up asking if we want to save the info for the site.   I've selected "no" or "never for this site" before by mistake, and that caused the autofill to ignore that site.

A couple of things might trigger the system to start auto-filling -- first one I'd try is this:

Look in Settings, under "Accounts and Passwords" (or "Passwords" in older iOS versions)  and if your login info is there, delete the entire entry for that website after you make sure you know what your username and password are.    (By the way, be sure there aren't multiple entries for the same website -- that could cause a problem with autofill.)   After you've deleted entries there, go to Settings, Safari, and clear Safari History and Website Data and also clear out website data under "Advanced."   Then launch Safari again, visit the site, fill in the sign-in info and see if you get the pop-up asking if you want to save it.    This might reset the system to autofill that site the next time around.

In other cases, deliberately entering the incorrect password sometimes will trigger the pop-up to save and then, later, to autofill the info.   (By the way, which version of iOS are you using?)

Re: IPad and saved website information question

Thank you DooBDoo for taking time to post this information.  I clicked on Privacy, but no place to turn off private browsing. Will continue to search and they the clearing of history you suggest. I have IPad Pro iOS 11.4.1. Thanks again!

Re: IPad and saved website information question

I think it is fixed! Seems like clearing Safari history did it. I turned iPad off and on and went into my favorites and didnt have to go thru all the passwords and other troubles. I am afraid to touch any other button, but I got one advisory from HSN stating that I should turn on my cross site tracking or would be unable to do something. Should I turn it back on, or not? Thank you both again for being so helpful and taking time to help! Susi.

@Susic, That's great!   Thanks for the iOS info -- that's the version I have on my iPad 6.   Private browsing is turned on or off in Safari, itself, when you have it open, rather than in the settings.  Regarding "Prevent cross-site tracking" option, you could enable it and only turn it off if a specific site has a problem with it (then turn it back on, after using the site).   This feature was introduced with iOS 11, and I think some websites haven't caught up with it.
