I simply cannot get my wifi connection secured

I tried Microsofts steps, I tried the router website steps- it will not secure my network. What the heck do I have to do? It's a Netgear Router. I'm really crazed over this. I know some stuff about pcs but the wireless and laptop world is new to me.
