It's been working fine all day but now it won't let me into other programs or even turn off. Has anyone had this happen and what did you do?

This has happened a couple of times.
The following worked for me.

This happened to me ....I went to my local ATT store they were able to resolve the issue.

Try rebooting or restarting your phone but it's a different method depending on the model iPhone you have. I have an iPhone 6 Plus and I have to hold down my lock/power button and home button at the same time until the screen goes black - then keep holding 'til the Apple logo appears - it will restart - might take a minute or so. Google it for your model.
If that doesn't work take it to your local cellphone store where you have your service - or an Apple store.

Hi isaboo: had this happen as well and doing as above posters suggested did work. Guy at Apple store also suggested I turn phone off occasionally, which I had not done. Just for a short period, them back on. No problem since.
