It WAS turned on the whole time..... That's why I'm not sure what was eating all my data? It happened the last two vacations so this time hubs and I just said...lets get a tablet so we don't have to worry about those ****** phones!
Did you have your data turned on also? If so, your phone was using data first instead of wifi. That's what phone companies do. Unless you're somewhere where there is no wifi, turn your data off...and keep it off...until you need to use the internet somewhere there is no wifi connections.
For example, my data is turned off all the time unless I need to look a recipe up while I'm at the grocery store or something like that. As soon as I'm done, I turn it right back off again. While I'm at the hospital, I turn on my wifi and use their free connection to surf the internet. When I leave there, I turn my wifi off again. I only turn on the type of connectivity I need and when done...turn it back off again.
ok - (no laughing) how do I turn off my data?

This is a bit O/T. Verizon changed their data plans last week. Please go into the store and look at your plan. You can ask about the overage on you cell plan. You can ask for help with you settings.

I just called them yesterday - for me to move to the next level plan (more data) it will me 40.00 more a month, I really don't want to pay 150++ (after all teh taxes and stuff) for our cell phones each month, I make maybe 3-4 calls a WEEK on it, send less than 10 texts a week and check Facebook usually during my lunch at work other than that, I don't use my phone much, it sits in my purse. So 150+ a month is just nutz for me anyways...

I'm the tablet queen. I have a HP windows tablet, Samsung Galaxy Note tablet, and lastly a Poloroid tablet.
For the money the Poloroid tablet is really nice.

Sandgirl, have you considered Tracfone? It sounds like exactly what you need. Like you, I have very few texts or calls and can connect to internet almost anywhere I go so use very little data. I have the LG Ultimate 2 Android, and it and a year's worth of data, texts, and minutes runs me about $8 a month.

You need to manually connect to the WiFi networks. It doesn't happen automatically. For example, when you go to a hotel, find out the name of their wireless network, go to the settings, on your phone, find their WiFI network, select it from the list, enter the security number if needed and then connect. The same procedure needs to happen at each new place you go.
You will need to do the same thing whether you are using a smart phone or a tablet. This is true no matter where you are. It could be at a hotel, cafe, library, etc. With Apple products, they will automatically connect a second time but initially, you need to connect to a new wireless network manually.

Sandgirl,
You can use the wifi with your phone the same as you do your laptop and tablet. You don't need to use up your data like you did before. Just connect to wifi.
That is the part that confused me. I thought you were having to use data because there was no wifi. If there is wifi, use it for your phone.

Hubs and I are looking into a Tracfone for both of us once our contract with Verizon is up (May of 2016) - I have seen great special on HSN, the phones look great and I think it will fit our needs to a "T" - Thank you! ![]()
