Hi again. I found it interesting to read what people have suggested me to do. I have decide I am not going to do anything. It looks too complicated. My computer tries each day to get Windows 10. Maybe I should cancel my reservation so my computer won't keep trying.

What?!!

It keeps "trying"?  By itself?  Without your prompting?  Oh no!  I accepted a "reservation" this morning, but I was glad it was just a reservation because I wasn't sure I'd actually DO the upgrade.  R U saying the computer just tries to upgrade out of the blue by itself?  If that's the case, that IS awful.  And, typical of MSFT.

I'm going to cancel my reservation*.  Microsoft is notorious for all kinds of bugs.

(sigh)

*How do you do that?

My computer keeps trying to update to Windows 10 because I clicked that I was reserving it.

I would like to remove the little window from the tool bar.   I ordered windows 10, but decided I don't want it.  Can anyone tell me how to remove that little window.

I don't know about removing it, but I was able to hide it.  You can hide any icon/notification  from your taskbar by a right click on the little arrow, a window pops open with possible other hidden icons  and click customize.  Depending on what brand or model computer,  instructions may vary.  You should be able to select which icons and notifications you wish to appear on your taskbar.

This morning, I removed Windows 10 after about two weeks of using it.  My experience in a nutshell began with curiosity, excitement, questionable, to confused and ended with frustration.  The finale was when  my computer kept stalling or  freezing up.  It feels good to have my old windows 8.1 back.

Re: I'm getting a message that my computer can not upgrade to Windows 10

This is what I did.   When I first did it, before the first expiration date of the free upgrade offer it kept going right back to view but after a while it stayed hidden doing what Oceanbreeze did.  At least you don't have it looking at you all the time.

I hate clutter and it was driving me a little crazy, especially at first when I had changed it to 'hide icon and notifications' and every time I'd turn a computer on again there it was.   I still kind of wish there was a 'make it go away' option but at least it's hidden.

Somebody posted a way to get rid of it but when I tried to do that the instructions didn't match up with what I actually saw, so I got out of there.  Best not to mess with stuff if you don't feel comfortable.  You never know what damage you could cause.  Smiley Happy

Re: I'm getting a message that my computer can not upgrade to Windows 10

I had my Dell laptop wiped clean, Windows 7 installed, along with my documents and folders from my external hard drive (luckily I did a  backup the day before my computer died).  I was going to purchase a refurbished laptop with Windows 10 installed; however, when I brought it home, there were problems with it.  So I returned that laptop and decided to get my old Dell laptop redone.  I'm using it now, and it seems to be working okay so far.  I have problems with the cursor when I type, and sometimes, words/letters get messed up.

I looked for new laptops at Best Buy and at the Apple Store.  I finally decided to purchase an Apple Mac laptop.  I also purchased Apple onetoone and AppleCare.  I took my first class the day I purchased the laptop, and I have another class scheduled next week.  Some things are different between my old laptop and the new Apple laptop, and it takes awhile to get used to things.

I need a good, working laptop for my volunteer work; so, for now, I'm going between both computers.

Re: I'm getting a message that my computer can not upgrade to Windows 10

Just wanted to update... I wrote down the number of the windows 10 upgrade it starts with KB and then there's a five numbers after that. I went to the settings bar clicked that on and then went to the installed updates and uninstalled windows 10 upgrade. I had to change my settings from the recommended update settings to letting me know which updates would I like to update and that the computer would let me know before starting to put updates on my computer. I had to do this several times [royal pain] but, after that it seemed to work. i do not get any more updates for windows to be installed. I did however change my update settings back to the recommended settings and no windows 10 updates just my normal amount of updates which of course I installed this morning. If any of you reserved the win 10 as I did and do not do the above it will automatically update or try to in my case. As far as hiding the icon I dont see that anymore either. Good luck hope this works out for all of you!

Thanks, Nutmeg!!   I wish I had seen this first.  The set of instructions I tried that somebody else posted didn't match up to what came up.  But this takes like two seconds and takes you exactly where you want to go.

Much appreciated.  Smiley Happy

Argh!  Even when you delete that icon out of your task manager it keeps coming back!  It's like a freaking cancer.   Smiley Sad

Forced obsolescence. Welcome to the club. I'm a MAC user, currently with OSX 10/6/9 Snow Leopard. Apple is already done with the "cat" systems and into Yosemite/El Capitan. I'll need to by a new one soon. Thanks not.

Yosemite is FREE!!!!

El Capitan is not coming out until the fall.  It wll be FREE!!!!!

If you are happy w/your current OS as well as your computer there is no reason to upgrade your OS and/or your Mac....*yet.*
