There seems to be changed to I photo, I can not directly import the photo on my Mac, I do not use my phone, I now need drag the photo to the desktop and import it from there, the photos are .are labeled HEIC in Photos and the show up as JPEG on my desktop, just an annoying second step and more clutter on my desktop

I make a photo calendar for my father every Christmas. This year several of the pictures my sister e-mailed to me for the calendar were HEIC. I didn't know what that meant (still don't), and I couldn't import them to his calendar. Other photos she sent were JPEG. I don't know if they were possibly the older ones. She has an iPhone. I have an iPhone and a MacBook Air.
I can't help you but just wanted to reply because of the HEIC photos you mentioned.

@I am still oxox I just wanted to add that I just checked a photo that I took on my iPhone last week. It's an HEIC, too. What does that mean? Are we not going to be able to send them to people or use them on certain things now? I started a new post in case you had already read my previous post to you.
I just Googled it, and apparently HEIC is better quality and takes up less space than JPEG photos. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to use them on my Shutterfly calendar.

I don't use iPhoto at all. I actually found it annoying when photos went directly to iPhoto when I transferred them from my camera, so I'm no help with that. But, here is an article about the HEIC format and ways to share them with friends.

Thank you for posting this @Icegoddess . The article says that Macs convert HEICs to JPEGs when sending to non Mac users and posting to social medis. I wish it had converted them when I was trying to upload them to Shutterfly for my dad's calendar. I missed putting some good recent photos on his 2020 calendar.

I had this issue,
go to your camera settings on your phone and change them from HEIC back to JPEG
