PATIENCE......this is a major one, so it's going to take a while......best to have your device plugged in just in case your power is low!!

How long should we wait before downloading it? I find that the experiences of the posters here are quite  helpful. I use an IPad.

I generally wait a week at least. I let other people suss out & report the flaws & issues. This is a "big" (in terms of changes) update. Back up everything before you download it.

          Thanks for the thread, @HULAGIRL!

Please, everyone, be sure to make a complete backup of your device before you install any updates.

I usually install a new version as soon as it's available...  but unless there are major security issues there's no reason you have to do so.    This one does have a lot of new features.

It only took me about 14 minutes for the complete update -- but I didn't try to do it over WiFi.    If you have a computer, and launch iTunes there, and connect the device to the computer, the update will usually go much faster for you.

The iOS 10 update is available for:

iPhone
  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 6s
  • iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone 5c
  • iPhone 5
iPad
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch
  • iPad Pro 9.7-inch
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad Air
  • iPad 4th generation
  • iPad mini 4
  • iPad mini 3
  • iPad mini 2
iPod
  • iPod touch 6th generation

If you're updating wirelessly, that's probably the reason it's so slow.   True, on the first day there's a big demand and sometimes Apple is the cause of the slowdown...  but mine was really a fast update doing it via iTunes on my iMac.    Very good point, @HULAGIRL, if doing this wirelessly it's a very good idea to plug in the device to a power source.
