@Boehm Collector wrote:@Jordan2 .. Why don't you check out Apple products? My DH and I both have a MacBook Pro ... and we love them. Very user friendly. Also, if you go to an Apple Store they will help you decide what would work best for you.
@Boehm Collector, unfortunately I don't have an Apple Store near me, I would have to buy online or go to Best Buy. I want to wait to read some reviews on the new models. I have had an HP laptop in the past and liked it very much, that's why I'm thinking of going with that.
@Jordan2, I just bought a MacBook Pro 13" laptop and I love it. It is not one of the brand new ones and I believe I made the right choice for me. I have a 2015 version that has USB ports, Thunder Ports, SD card slot, headphone connection and HDMI.
I did a lot of reading before I bought. The new ones are at least $1000 more than the one I have. They don't have USB ports, HDMI, Headphone or SD slot. They use Thunder ports for which you need a dongle (Extra $40) to connect your devices. The new MacBook Pros just released were overkill for my needs.
Windows 10 made me a complete Apple convert. I now have iphone, ipad, MacBook and I am happy with all of them. I now intend to get an ipad mini instead of full size because I like my laptop so much, I don't use the ipad for browsing. I will get the small ipad for travel.
Also, check out the Mini Mac. I never even knew what it was until I went to the store.
Go to a Best Buy and compare models. The big expensive new Pros don't get great reviews and are overkill for most of the browsing general public.
Good luck with your search. New computers are great fun. LM

As I think it was stated before, you have to decide what you're going to use the laptop for: surfing, gaming or working, then go from there. I'd check out Consumer Reports and CNET for reviews.
We have Toshibas and have not had any problems.

I've been a pc person for year although have an Ipad which is wonderful. But just purchased the macbook pro, the older one 2012 because it has all the outlets, cd/dvd etc and you can upgrade everything in it, the battery, add more memory, although it has a 500 gb harddrive, you can add more RAM, it comes with 4. Anyway, it is like driving a Chevy (pc) and a Mercedez (Mac). Can't believe the difference and what I've been missing all these years. The newer ones have retina, this one doesn't just hd 1200 by 800 but wow it has an amazing picture/screen. The keyboard lights up, and it is just perfect in size. I put the new OS in it, Sierra, and had no problem. I will definitely add more RAM because it can get slower if you have a bunch of apps open. the newer ones are not updatable (is that a word
by yourself. And they don't have CD/DVD but you can buy a bunch of attachments for that but I didn't want that for a laptop, what's the point. Yes, the screen is retina. So it is a personal opinion for you. Go down to the Apple store and they will help you out. You can even get the 2012 model as refurbished there if you want and if you are a college student or teacher/student you can get a discount on the newer models I believe. I just do not think I will purchase another pc. I had a Gateway that beeped at me
, and I had a HP which the tracking pad was all over the place.hope this may have helped you out. Have a wonderful 2017.

It's funny you should mention Toshiba. I currently have a Toshiba, it's a lemon, I have had trouble with it from day one. I wouldn't purchase another one, I have owned an HP and liked it.
