Re: I Did It and I'm So Not A Techie!!

I remember when I hooked up my first printer over 20 years ago. I knew that I did everything right and it still would not print.

I asked an IT guy at work for help and he asked what type of printer I had. I said I didn't know. He said to find out and go into the system and choose my printers brand and model. I had to tell the PC which printer I had so they could talk and exchange info.

Well, it took me hours to do that, but finally I did. (This was before Windows, we used to use DOS)

Congratulations on your install. Once you gain confidence, it will be easier and easier to do. You go girl!

Thanks jordan...

I don't have anyone to help either. Oh, I have a PC guy I used once and he'll charge me $100 an hour. Ridiculous. I have male friends, but they never offer and I find it hard to ask for help.

But, it's done.

It's a crazy world we live in. We have to pay for cell phones, minutes, printers, toners, anti-virus software... just think we all lived without those things and were just fine. Imagine if we invested all the money we have to spend on technology, how wealthy we would be at retirement! I don't know how people do it who don't have savings. This new world of ours, even though it might be "more efficient" (barring the hacking that goes on) is it really helping us in the long run?

Well said!!! I was so frustrated last week with alot of "tech" changes,lol.... I switched TV cable companies. The guy ran thru things so fast, I still have not figured it all out....then my computer decided I need to switch browsers, ha!ha!! I have had IE, since I had my computer, (about 6 yrs & I am OLD & hate changes in routine things). Everything I go into on computer tells me switch browser. I have used Chrome a few times, but not really liking it. OH! and my printer also decided to go haywire!!!! Too many changes for this ole dog to learn!!

I agree with your statement about living without all the tech in the world today. I was about ready to throw TV, computer, printer ....ALL out the door last week. I am still not over it,lol...

Re: I Did It and I'm So Not A Techie!!

Good for you--doesn't it feel good to be able to do things new and successfully?

I hear you on the 20 years, out the door. All of us over 50 were set packing at our firm 12 years ago. After I had the awful realization that a long, successful resume with unusual skills and achievement meant nothing if you were over forty (in that industry) I changed careers. Hitting my 10th at this firm and I've just hired a second person, and am coaching others. It was hard, hardest thing I've ever done.

I'm about to coach someone out of work due to a transplant. It's not enough to get handouts, we all like to be independent and pull our own wagon.

Sometimes you have to think outside the box. It is VERY hard, so you have my best wishes.
